With the scarcity of PMags, might we actually consider using...TAPCO!?

When your magazine malfunctions, how do you propose to repair it or diagnose the problem? Technically if your rivet fails you have a prohibited item. At some point common sense has to prevail on at least some level, especially when it comes to maintenance.

Anyway, the only way is to drill it.

I fully agree. I was watching some GoPro video today from people shooting 3gun in the states. I kept imagining them reloading every 5 rounds and I gotta say it seems like it would be way less fun.

I think the rule of thumb here is that if you have (operative word being "have") to disassemble your magazine for maintenance, make sure it's a fairly quick start and end project, ie: have everything prepared in-advance, and don't leave it lying around disassembled for days or weeks on end.

Yeah fair enough. It absolutely baffles me when I see people posting threads about adding windows to their mags and the like. I can only assume they're from another country trying to make us all jealous because our government would see that as the Luca Magnotta video pretty much.
 
This thread makes me laugh.

My first AR mag was a Tapco. I'm not in service, or a competitor, so my gear doesn't work hard, but so far, the Tapco has been every bit as good as the PMAG I have, if not better.
Yeah, I'm not kidding. Well, the only thing I noticed was the follower seems smoother then the PMAG.
I would not hesitate to buy more, and unless some hidden issue about it rears it's ugly head in the future, I'd choose it over the PMAG, if only cause I find it looks better.

The limiting mechanism is brilliant. They come apart VERY easily. So easily in fact, that whenever I need a proper 30 round spring to diagnose problems with other mags, I pull it out of the Tapco. When you guys figure out how it comes apart, you'll $hi+ bricks, and probably want to sell your PMAG's so you can buy 2wice as many Tapcos.

The TangoDown mag however, defiantly does not come apart without risk of destruction.
 
You find the center line one the bottom off the floor plate,drill a 1/8 hole just thru it: you'll feel the drill push on the spring loaded piece when the drill goes thru. Now turn the floor plate over and you'll see a 3/8" diameter indent: Use an end mill if you have one or just an ordinary 3/8" twist drill to drill thru. You'll see how they block for 5 rounds; better than a rivet. Now just reassemble and you now have a button in the 3/8 hole you push down to dissassemble,just like a PMag. Never owned a pmag. I own about 20 lar 15 mags and thats all I've ever used and never had a single mag related issue.

Hi, are yours the current generations Tapco mags or previous gen?

Will drilling those tapco mags open to disassemble and clean make them a prohibited item even if they are reassembled with the 5 round locking thing?
