Got a new camera so I HAD to go shooting to test it out.

As the title says, I recently got a new camera, so I just had to go out shooting to test it out. Yet again it was less than optimal conditions, but I managed. Mods please leave this here, as it will be more appreciated here then getting lost in the chaff of the photo and video section.

Camera set to Auto

Camera set to Partial Colour. Take B&W image, but reveals a selected colour, much like how the movie Sin City was shot. I was hoping it would pick up on the red in the stock but it didn't. I don't know why this one resized differently.

Set to Minature mode. Takes picture as if subject were a minature item.

Set to Illustration mode. Takes picture as if it were an illustration, emphasising the contour. I like this one.

Set to Watercolour mode. Takes pictures as if it were a watercoulour painting. I like this one too.

The next few were taken with the scene modes. I forget which ones are which, but I do remembering setting one to Snow mode.

Jeez, tell us what camera! Those are fantastic pics! Nice old rifle, too. Can you just imagine yourself hunkered down in the bush in Finland with your captured SVT-40, waiting for a Russian patrol to pass by, right into a trap?

Ok, finally got the videos uploaded to youtube. I havn't found a program that I like for combining the videos, so it is how I shot them.

Not bad for a sub $200 point and shoot. I am really glad I didn't spend the $900 for a DSLR package when they were on sale after Christmas. The camera is a Sony DSC-WX150. I got it from future shop as part of a package. It came with a carry case. It is 18.2MP, but I only have it set to 5MP, which is enough resolution for anything that I'll ever do with it.

Now can someone recommend me a fairly good tripod that is not all plastic (ie the camera mount) for around $50?

Your miniature mode, is a digital tilt-shift, it is made for taking landscape photos. (camera should be turned around for best effect) also to get true miniature look try to be above scene.

Unless you are absolutely, positively sure you won't need the full 18 mp, use lower setting. BUT - you will not hurt the camera by using the full meal deal. You will stumble upon a pic that just begs to be made into a nice BIG print, and the high mp will come out much better. I know all the camera experts will come out of the woodwork here and pooh pooh my suggestion.

My wife took an offhand shot of a 1959 Ford or Meteor convertible sitting partly in the shade one nice evening in Lethbridge a few years ago. We had the camera set to low mp. Started to get blurry as soon as the print got too big. It was a gorgeous car, in a perfect setting. Ever after that, all our cameras were set to the max mp. SD cards are cheap. Buy a few extra and go for broke!
