Savage 64 Thumbhole Stock

Ok, I'll start off with yes, worthless gun to start modifying. But I've got attachment to it (my first gun).

It'a a Lakefield Arms 64B (Built by Cooey), which savage now makes as the Savage 64. Now my question is, does anyone know if there is a thumbhole laminate stock available for this? I'm looking to spruce it up a little and hopefully it will make me want to go use this old girl a little more.

I've googled but not had any luck finding one available.

Boyds makes the TactiCool stock for it; but it's not listed in their catalog. Also they can't export the TactiCool stock and more (because it's... well... TactiCool, I guess). But maybe you can find one that is already here?

And the 64b is a fine gun for modding. Mine has accounted for a pile of gophers and a lot of smiles at the range.

Like you, my 64 was my first .22. I still have it (mine for 25 years), and can't imagine saying goodbye to it! That said, I've not seen any thumbholes for it. I have seen thumbhole blanks that have no inletting at all. Could carve one of those up to fit?

There may be lots with thumbhole stocks coming out of New York state shortly - they're "assault weapons", and banned. New York just busted my stupid meter - needle broke clean off.

I think you can still get a non-"Tacticool" thumbhole stock for it from Boyd's (under $100, so they are exportable). Available in various laminates, etc.

I heard savage can still export that stock because its not called tacticool.

Hah, sorry did not mean to offend. Yeah its a great little gun. A blank my be the way to go. I've got a mill so with a few practice scraps of wood first I'm sure I wouldn't have an issue doing the inletting myself.
 
Giblet, is your rifle actually marked "built by Cooey"? I was under the impression that the Lakefield Arms 64B was actually made by Lakefield. The current Savage model 64 is made at the Lakefield plant, along with all the other Savage rimfires if I am not mistaken. When Winchester owned Cooey, the rifles were still made in Couburg at the old Cooey factory. I have one with a Winchester butt plate and the barrel is marked "Cooey model 64B, MFG by Winchester, Couburg Ont. Canada".

It's currently carrying a silly-large scope, because I was using it for gophers and they wouldn't let me get close any more. A 6x-24x 56mm.
 
My mistake, you are correct. Mine says: Lakefield 64B -Made In Canada- By Lakefield Arms LTD

Machined.... Aluminum... Don't I wish!!
It's just a 64b stock that I passed through my thickness planer a couple times to square-up the sides, then I grafted on an ATI shotgun folder that I got for a great price from eBay.
Then it got a spray of some "granite" paint.
And then Del Selin threaded the barrel for that A2 flash eliminator.
 
Please post a pic with the large scope. I like the idea of the granite paint, have to look at Home Depot to see if thet have a green textured type. I picked up some bedliner black for texture. Have to look outside the box sometimes.
