Ruger SR9 for IPSC

Well said mshundal. I find the ones that complain about the "IPSC attitude" are usually the ones that suffer from poor attitude. Witness the OP's reaction to the helpful suggestion made by the IPSC Ontario Co-ordinator. Instead of saying thanks for the help, but I'd rather disconnect the mag safety, he turns on the BB Co-ord calling his suggestion "anal" and "ludicrous"
The IPSC shooters I have met from all around the planet are the nicest and most helpful shooters I know, someone that has an issue with them probably needs to look at themselves as the source of the problem.

+1...

Exactly Pat. I travel great distances to shoot, and have met people from all over Canada and the U.S.. I have had nothing but good times with great people within IPSC. What i dislike are people who don't shoot IPSC making negative comments about something they know nothing about.
For anyone that likes to shoot pistols and have fun, then IPSC is for you. Bs comments and or story's regarding IPSC are well..............bs.

John where have you been? The decision was made last spring, finally to allow the removal. I would have thought the sound of mag disconects hitting the garbage cans would have kept you awake at nights. Denis spent a week running around with pen springs in his truck.

From the Global Village and Uncle Vince:

"Ryan Best, on 24 April 2012 - 07:45 PM, said:
If I bypass the magazine disconnect so I can de-#### the striker with mag removed as other models of this gun do, will it be legal for production still?

Answer:

"Yes, because S&W offer their M&P Series with or without the magazine disconnector."

Does Ruger offer the gun without a mag disconnect? If so it seems me me logic would say the removal would be legal, if not, nope.
There is a thread pn the Global Village about this. Vince says you cannot remove a safety device. He also says if the gun is made with and wthout the devce guns with the device can have the device removed.

Take Care

Wrong guy Bob.

It's the new guy using my username.

'Twould appear that someone's sacred cow was gored and some alpha egos bruised. Tsk, tsk ....

Anyone who thinks that it was easier to win or compete in the Cooper era of the early "walk & draw", Sparks AT, Davis and Chapman Hi-Rides wasn't there. It was NEVER easy when everyone was shooting guns (usually 5" .45s) with basic mods (sights, trigger, safety, mag well, ejection port) and loads proven on a power pendulum.

We also went through an era of wearing concealment holsters (instigated by Canada, eh; a last ditch attempt at retaining the original intent of the exercise) that the US made a mockery of, barely paying lip service to it with top shooters wearing Velcro closures on winter jackets, etc.

Not to say that it's easy now, just a different game that has resulted in a proliferation of really good guns, gear and accessories; specific to the sport, but beneficial to all pistol shooters.

Now, can we get back to fighting our common enemy instead of each other?

You are starting to remind of some other guys in the Action Shooting forum who felt impelled to honor us with their opinions on the safety aspects of shooting CAS........even though they don't particpate in it.

Their input was not particularly valuable, for obvious reasons, - just as your input on IPSC doesn't really do much other than stir the pot. So you shot IPSC back in the day.....oh well get over it and stick with what you know.

Infighting between disciplines is not helpful.........ever!

Gee, John, I thought I said that. And I think I acknowledged that the game had changed over the years, from a defensive pistolcraft/martial art form to a 'sport'. Like it or not, that's the history.

As for the safety aspect of CAS, the sport deserves well intentioned criticism. There is no CAS equivalent to the IPSC Black Badge, and there ought to be - IMHO. Some of the gun handling is pretty wild and wooly at times, despite a proven safety record.
People buy the guns and show up to shoot. It is assumed that they are safe gun handlers, which is often not the case. Our club has a mandatory holster qualification, a minimal standard that covers safe drawing and reholstering techniques, as we allow x-draw rigs. The rest is up to you, and our ROs.

During clinics we've held, demonstrating the techniques of shooting fast and accurately with single action revolvers and lever guns, we prove time and again that it is well nigh impossible to teach a male past puberty anything about gunhandling. He's seen "Gunsmoke", "Paladin" and all the John Wayne movies - that is until he gets his butt kicked by a lady!
