Maybe a re-post, but just curious what my fellow hunters think of this video.

Looked like a really nice spot on a river too. Now littered with shards of steel. Even if it is their own land seems like a total lack of respect. I'd sell my wife for property like that lol.
 
This stuff just angers me. No ethics at all. If this is legal activity whereever it was filmed that is a crime all to itself. These guys don't respect animals and certainly don't have common sense!!

Make that for 99.99% of us, I think. And I'll shamelessly include myself on the side of those who have yet to try a shot on game at 500.

I quite understand the common desire to reach out further -- having the skill required to take longer shots certainly creates more opportunities, and there is a certain satisfaction in putting those skills to practical use. But a game animal is living, breathing thing that deserves far better than to be part of someone's "let's see if this works" experiment.

It's an old debate, and one that each of us needs to answer in his or her own way -- but at what point does "hunting" simply become "shooting"? I recall on of Jack O'Connor's account of the one, single critter (in this case, and elk) that he shot at 600 yards -- and to paraphrase, it seems it was about as exciting to him as shooting a paper target at the same distance. For me, it's simply not "hunting" unless I'm inside the animal's ability to detect me and to react with alarm. It certainly varies with species and terrain, but even in the open prairie or the southern Alberta badlands it's an unusual situation in which just about any critter will completely ignore you until you're within 400 yards. And where I do most of my hunting in central and northern Alberta, it doesn't take much ability to walk up within 200 yards of one's intended quarry. For me, CGN's A-Zone got it right years ago when he told me about what he called "being within powder burn distance" -- that's where the fun and excitement is, for sure.

There are shooting skills, and there are hunting skills. Today's mall ninja crop of urban wannabees are definitely confusing the two.
 
I just went and read some of the comments on youtube, I'm assuming some of them were from the people here. The poster of the video says "Did anyone say it was hunting? I don't believe that word was used in the title or the description" Soo.. its just straight up trying to kill something? Obviously they don't care if the meat is wasted. I'm curious to know where this is. It doesn't look like he's trying to protect any crops or anything that the deer might be destroying. He setup specific areas with markers and bright back drops to be able to see them easier. I'm guessing the areas are baited as well to bring in the targets. The person behind the gun is apparently a marine sniper. If thats true I cant imagine the things he's seen and done for his country. Doesn't make what he's doing in the video right, but how much do you have to experience to be desensitized to killing? Didn't mean to stir any pots by posting this. Just needed some reassurance that there are still people out there have some respect for a life they are taking, even if it is dinner. I've hunted with some people who have a complete lack of respect for the animals they take, and it seem to be more and more common every year. Especially among the younger hunters.
 
IMO - It is irresponsible, unethical, unsafe, and clearly the shooter is a jackass.
Besides possibly starting a fire, the chance of getting a clean kill are minimal at best.
He's an idiot and gives all shooters a bad name posting stuff like that

he even states "as you can see, .50 cal tracers are not accurate and all over the place"

im sad he turned comments off. I really had fun picking at him.
 
Two things bugged me. One thing being tracer ammo, and second thing being their lack of accuracy. Clean kill or no kill. If you want to hunt deer with 50 BMG go right ahead, but make sure you use soft points to kill not to wound.
