Winchester Shot Show Featherweight 7x57

I was browsing the winchester site and see they have a shot show special "Model 70 Featherweight" in 7x57 with a 26" barrel .... what do you guys think of this offering?

For the bucks they'll ask it should come with a shorter barrel without the necessity of chopping.
Featherweight and 26" bbl. should not be in the same sentence ?
I am a Mod. 70 fan, but in reality the Featherweight compared to other rifles is hardly a ' light ' gun to begin with.
 
The 26" barrel will mostly likely get the most performance out of the 7x57...it's not heavy at 7lbs 4oz but its not a featherweight either. Love the looks of the feather weight stock and its only about 6 oz. more than a 22" barrel....don't really think the 6 more oz. would matter much at the end of the day.
 
You are correct in every respect hawk-i, no doubt the 26" will wring out a bit more.
My long time used and dependable old 7X57 is a 24" and for trudging through the bush it seems about right.
As for weight its a whisker over 7lbs. scoped with a 6X Leupold, so with the same glass mounted the Winchester would be on the north side of 8 lbs.
I don't mind packing a bit more extra weight rifle-wise, but I'm 67 and those darn hills seem steeper somedays.
Health - wise I'm quite fit and have no problem keeping my weight down, so no one needs to tell me to lose weight.
After all, I just had my prostate gland removed to cut down on excess baggage.... LOL !
In closing you are also right, what is 6oz. at the end of the day ?
 
I'd prefer 24", but cut/crown can change that. Not going to hold my breath being a "shot show special".Likely not out until late summer/fall. Wish Winchester would ditch that shnabel tip and go with black or even nothing.
Just noticed the very last "Jack O'Connor tribute" rifle went for $15,000.00 on Gunbroker auction!

Holy crap, Kevan! I always chuckle to myself when I hear or read guys worrying about an ounce or two on their guns...but this takes the cake!

I think that I'm gonna have my appendix removed. I'm not planning on using it, and if you multiply the weight of it by the number of steps in a day, well, it might make the difference between making it to the top of the next hill or not.

Thank God I'm already circumcised! :)
 
I'm pretty sure the featherweight in 7x57 has been offered in Europe for atleast a couple years now. Does the shot show special come with upgraded wood or anything?

I, on the contrary, have a weight problem, but there is no way in hell I'm getting my barrel shortened to lose a few ounces, even a few pounds. Come to think of it, I'm probably damned near prohib as is.

I guess its really a matter of choice and/or preference, my old 24" 7X57 has served me well and will probably continue to do so for a while.
A buddy uses a 22" 7X57 and he is very happy with it, so I'm sure a 7X57 with a 26" bbl. is just more of a good thing... right ?
 
What a perfect candidate for a 7X57 AI............................I think I may need one................wonder if Clay got any on order as he has just returned from the shot show. I'm really looking for one in a 700 Classic...........Anyone?
