How in the name of ***** do you load the SVT-40 with stripper clips? Actually what I really want to know is how do I stack my stripper clips so the rifle will feed?

Thanks
Dave

Here is some video of my loading my SVT with chargers. They are the cheap reproduction ones, unaltered, not loaded any special way. In the one video I have to swap one charger end for end because it doesn't fit, but some of mine seem to have a slight twist.

While the SVT my not have an interupter, the design of the magazine (should) keeps the rims infront of each other. At least in my experience. Take the magazine out and play around with a handful of cartridges and you will see.

the rounds have to go in with each rim forward of the last, so they will strip off properly by the bolt of the gun. my clips have an arrow on them so you can load them up and strip them in properly.

Russian method of loading the Chargers was like a pyramid.

You have 5 rounds.

1 and 5 stand on the back of the Charger itself.

2 and 4 stand on those.

3 stands on he inner rims of 2 and 4.

Works fine.

Yeah, Rimlock.

Me, Grimlock, like jam on toast.

That's as close as you can come to it with typesetting.

One at each end, flat against the Charger.

Second and fourth stand on those.

Middle round stands on second and fourth.

It cannot possibly work.

But don't tell that to the rifles; they think it's just fine!

Thank you kind sir!

I used to load my strippers this way, then started getting rimlock troubles on a consistent basis. I've now stopped using stripper clips all together.

In all seriousness,

I can load my charging clips in the recommended pyramid style, but they don't stay that way for very long. Jostling as you put them in and out of the ammunition pouch is enough to scramble the arrangement. Are the clips supposed to be tight enough to maintain the pyramid while the troops are marching up and down the square?

Haven't had many feeding problems or Me, Rimlock with my SVTs. I prefer to load five cartridges in by hand from the top, in general. Though I am also fortunate enough to have more original magazines on hand than rifles, with a couple of the modern mag.s as well I can have enough pre-loaded to hold the siege of Leningrad on my own.

I've found that too. I've loaded them all sorts of ways, but they just jostle about. Perhaps some proper chargers would be in order, but I need my arms and legs to go shooting. No use trading them on real russian ones when my cheapo new made ones work.

Hey red, how do those new mags work?

Well you see, basically there's this thing called a ‘follower,’ and there's a spring which pushes on it, feeding the cartridges into the breech.

Ha, ha. They work very well for me, it was just the initial fitting that was a problem. They arrived far too tight for my rifles; matter of fact, when I tried to stick a magazine in to check the fit, it got stuck and required a bit of bracing and yanking to remove. You will need to grind or file some surfaces before they'll even lock in the well. The main thing is the pair of small square lugs on the back which engage in the mag. release: you might have to grind them down a bit, or remove some material off the bottom. Next is a bit of shaping of the beak on the front end. You may feel you need to grind down the sides because it's so tight, but probably not.

Grab your SVT and wiggle the mag.; you'll probably find it's a bit of a loose fit. I haven't adjusted the new ones to be so wiggly, I just remember to mount them with a firm smack. Just when you think you've got it, don't be surprised when you take it to the range if the mag. drops out on the first shot from the recoil. Test and adjust as necessary.

Haven't had issues with feeding (any more than the 1 out of 50 I get with the originals), but if you do, bending or filing the lips a touch should get it working.

Once you're done, a spray can of satin black paint and a few light coats will cover up the ugly evidence of your manipulations.
