1911 S&W where can I find replacement parts?

I just bought a S&W 1911 .45 and I can't seem to find any replacement parts. It's in stainless so I want to replace all the black parts with stainless parts like the safety, slide lock etc...any help would be much appreciated thanks

I am definitely changing every black piece to stainless it's just a matter of trying to find them. I am new to handguns so I'm not sure on parts when they refer to government/commander etc...but if you are interested in them send me a pm and we can work something out thanks

You will want to leave the black sights on. Stainless coloured sights will wash out in too many lighting situations.

A stainless slide stop and magazine release will drop right in. A stainless hammer will likely also slip right in without any troubles. But the thumb and beavertail safeties may need some fitting to operate correctly depending on how the tolerances stack up in the action.

The normal "Government" model is the 5inch barrel version. In stock form they originally came with a spur hammer and stubby "lug" grip safety. The "Commander" model was a shorter 4.25 inch barrel that was a little lighter and used by officers for the most part. It came originally with the ring style hammer and extended beavertail. Your S&W has the "Commander" style beavertail and ring hammer. Of course these days this is the norm for the majority of 1911's and generally only the GI style guns use the spur hammer and stubby lug style beavertail.

The difference between a Commander and a Government doesn't really affect the fit of any of the parts you're looking at changing. Your best bet with any 1911 is to have the parts fitted by a pistol smith. There is no guarantee that any 1911 part will drop in without some fitting - in the case of safeties, this is vital. As suggested above, Brownells ships to Canada, just keep your order total under $100 per order, and you're golden. Most folks like Wilson parts, and no gunsmith will refuse to fit them (gunsmiths hate low quality parts, and the good ones will refuse to use them).

HI check the pistol parts on the exchange ,saw a safety there . 1911 parts pop up lot of the time.

Agreed.There are really few true "drop in" parts when it comes to the 1911.Unless you really know what youre doing,especially with sears/hammers/safeties,best to let a competent gunsmith fit them.You can occasionally be lucky and find a part that doesnt need fitting,but this is not the norm and you should also know how to do a safety check on the parts before getting to the range.
