Guten tag,

I'm currently really interested in getting into the IPSC sport and I have some questions about the equipment.
I talked to an IPSC shooter and he told me all about the equipment I need, but I don't know where to get the stuff.
I have a CZ Shadow and I got 3 mags with it. Where would be the best place(s) to get the other equipment like belt, holster, mag-pouch and speed-loader, and what would you recommend?

Any suggestions are much appreciated :D

Double Tap Sports, Freedom Ventures, and CRAFM can all get you set up.

For a holster, my first suggestion would be the Blade Tech or the Ghost.

Wow perfect, they got everything I'm looking for.

Is a Ghost holster really worth paying $80 more than a Blade Tech? What's the main difference?

The Ghost is a lot faster on the draw. It's a bit more adaptable. I suggest the Blade Tech only because it is cheaper but still really decent. If you find it slowing you down, you won't begrudge buying the more expensive one later.

The Ghost is cool, but it's maybe not the best beginner holster. (I use a Ghost and love it.)

I use a Ghost in Open Division and they are great for that. For Production I think you would be happier with the Bladtech DOH. With the Ghost you will have a hard time (read impossible) adjusting the holster down the the point where the gun won't rock in it. Having your gun rock fore and aft in your holster can be a bit unnerving.

Got my stuff from http://www.brantshootingsports.com/ Shawn is a great guy.

However I don't know who does it out in Alberta

Well I do now - did a quick Google search (Google is your friend)

IPSC Alberta http://www.ipscalberta.com/newbie.asp

Main sponser of 2012 Provincials http://www.phoenixrange.ca/index.php

and you DO need the gear before taking the course - and a least 500 rounds of practice with the gun you're going to use.

The Black Badge course offers in-depth training in the safe competitive shooting techniques required not only to compete at IPSC events but to deliver the confidence and expertise to use handguns in the safest possible manner (swiped from the website)

I've been told I need the equipment to start the Black Badge course. Don't you need it for the qualifier?

I will disagree, unless you have the Bladetech retention cranked waaay up, you're not going to notice any difference in speed coming from it or the Ghost, or a CR, or a DAA or...... The gun has to get from point A to point B, regardless of what it starts in.
The Ghost is a lot faster on the draw.

I use the Ghost Stinger holster for my CZ Shadow but I also have Bladetech holster for my CZ85 Combat and Sig P226. Both are great. I must say I agree with Slavex. You will not notice any difference in speed.

Saturday night, 6pm, Phoenix Indoor Range, we have our IPSC League night. Come on out and there will be plenty of people willing to help out and answer questions.

You're not wrong. (You rarely are.) For me the primary difference in speed is with the Ghost, I have more control over the position and angle of the gun compared to the Blade Tech.

I went out to the IPSC night at phoenix range and actually got the run down on things from the owner of the range! he was very helpful and actually took us in as they were doing the shooting ect and answered all our questions while things were happening, very impressed...thinking about going and picking up a pistol from him and looking for a BB course to try and get into

Len at Phoenix has some competition gear in stock.

Come by on a Sat. league night and chat with the guys. We're more than happy to share our experiences. Some there (like myself) are quite the gear whore, and tend to constantly find the better mousetrap...

I'm the Asian guy with an open gun. Only one such person there! :)

you've got me there, the Ghost and holsters like it do afford a lot more range of adjustment than the Bladetech. For me, personally, having used them all, it doesn't make enough of a difference to justify using one. I've broken 3 Race holsters because I hammer down on the gun to get my grip before the draw, with the Bladetech all I do is push my pants down (cuz my belly doesn't do that enough already), with a race holster I break things. I'm told the DAA will suffer my abuse with no problems, but I haven't bothered to get one yet. If you've got the money though, that's the one I'd get, they seem to be much better built than the competition.

a good blend of a bladetech and a race holster is the Ghost STINGER. I put it on my belt last night and practiced a bit with it....works great. VERY adjustable...just about as much as a ghost race holster.

Since I like keeping a low budget, I'll go with the Blade Tech one for now. I can always upgrade later.

Upgrade? The Blade Tech is as good as any kydex pouch holster made. It and Com Tech rule IDPA in terms of useage. Buying one now will be the one you will be using when you win the Canadian National Productoin title.

Take Care

Bob
