I could swear I have seen this information posted before, but I tried a couple of searches and could not find anything.

My question is...If you have an AR with 14.5 barreled upper and you order a 10.5 version to mix it up every now and then, do you have to have a 2nd registration certificate showing the same lower receiver serial number but with the new upper measurements?

You have 30 days to let them know, so I guess as long as you put it back on at some point in the next 30 days. Or just store it as registered.

But pretty much as long as you still have possession of an upper of the length that it is registered you are ok

i do believe your ok unless it was registered lower only and then you added an upper without notifying

Idid that once and it was no biggie. It came known to the CFO when I sold the gun, they simply updated the details on the classification and processed the transfer.

You're supposed to report:

-any change that changes its classification
-any change that makes it cease to be a firearm
-any change that allows it to discharge ammo
-any change in calibre
-any change to an automatic gun

Changing barrel lengths doesn't apply to any of those.

So I buy a stripped lower
It gets registeres saying "frame/receiver only"
I complete it and put a upper on it and that means I have to re-register it?
Really?

I transport mine with the uppers removed, they fit in the case better, but ill be calling tomorrow to update my lowers cert.

I have a caliber excange kit on my pistol, and it is the primary caliber I use, so do I have to tell them that too?
I keep it stored with the barrel that it came with.

Checked with the CFO anyways as a general inquiry. Spoke to Annie in the verification section. She said all they care about is the lower receiver in this case. Upper receiver does not matter to them. She did say they could alter a registration cert to show 2 different lengths, but that it was not required.

No, Just shoot the thing.

Actually, your suppose to re register it when you finish your lower receiver and put an upper on it.

Mine are all registered 'receiver only'.
I go to the range with any number of different uppers I own.
I put them on and shoot.
I take them off and go home.
I have 30 days to report the change.

Oh wait. There is no change.
