Got my starter set up for melting and casting along with reloading on Xmas day and have now manage to put together my first decent number of slugs #4 and #7 target loads set up.

I can see why progressive loaders are the way to go but I gotta learn to walk be4 running.

I first did the slugs like they were target loads then I realized that its going to be probably mixed up with the target loads

So I took the extra step and assembled the slug round like how it comes from a 5 round pack. This way no mixing up what round is what.

No more paying a buck a shot for slug rounds for me !!!!!!

I think with having the lead for free it works out to about 30 cents per round.

Here is also the # 4 shot loads I did on the right. (100 rounds to a toolbox) All set for IPSC next weekend.

I know nothing about this, but wouldn't it be better to have the longer brass (slug/buckshot) shells over the shorter pussy bird-shot shells that you're using?

If they are low recoil rounds, then no need for high brass shells.
They would function the same as a 1 oz trap load.

Besides, the pussy bird shot shells are plentiful and usually free.

There's no functional difference between high and low. It's a myth perpetuated to make you think high brass shells are better and you should pay more. They do look prettier though.

I gotta say I'm just setting up the way you are and am waiting for my slug mold to arrive. The Lee LAII is what I got to learn on a swell as I don't plan on doing shot so you have to hand pack buck and slugs anyway I can't see getting a more expensive machine.

But I gotta know what that 12 gauge drill bit job is so I can order one!!

And where did you get your molds from? I had to order from the states as I couldn't find them here.

When you can do better, then you can brag all you want.
Till that day arrive's,...........................

Those are very clean and shiny looking slug. Did you just used straight wheel weight?

Excellent Question.

I have 2 types of lead.

The 12g slugs are made from pure lead. I got it from a stain glass company that was going bankrupt. They threw all the lead out in the garbage bin and I put as much as I could in my van when it got dark. Please dont judge me. I was young and needed the lead. LOL.

The other type of lead came from wheel weights and they are much harder hence better for the 9mm/357mag/40ca/45acp that I will learn to cast later.

I was asked what was the item on the drill press - its a ...

Lyman 12g roll crimper

See the video I made below and it will show how I used the crimper.

If you are wondering where I got my 12g Lee 1ounce mold from: Dragonbulletlube.com they are in Pickeering ON.

Paper targets. Its going to sound bizarre but i like shooting the shotgun like a rifle. Its not that accurate with a smooth bore barrel - 3-6" @25 yrds. but thats the fun part when I do a shoot off.

Some of the IPSC shotgun I do requires a slug round mixed in with shot rounds depending on how the course is set up.

you can tighten that up with better sights I think. I was shooting my cast lee slugs from a smoothbore 12.5" grizzly shotgun with ghost ring sights and you can get them touching at 25 yards
