Parallax and .22 optics

I was just cruising through the rimfire pics and see that most guys are scoping their .22's with scopes that have parallax set at 100 yards. I've always had rimfire scopes 2-7's/3-9's AO's and dial according to range. Would I be just as well served using a scope made for a centerfire? Its only gonna be used for plinking and shooting gophers, no matches. Im looking to throw a scope on my Sako Quad in the next few weeks.

No point in handicapping your shooting when good quality SF and PA scopes can be had for the same money... I don't put any scope on my rimfires that are not adjustable for parallax. JMO
 
If you search around you will find info on changing the parallax on a nonadjustable scope. You need a fixed target at the range you want and a stable platform. I took a Gamo 4x scope, bench locked it down, unlocked then objective lock ring then turn the objective lens to set the parallex to what you want then lock it down with the lock ring. I set my Gamo to 100yds.

WARNING!!! Don't turn too much if it is a gas charged scope as you will lose your dry inert gas. But how much is a gamo scope from Crappy Tire.
 
props to those that use adjustable. i went with a rimfire scope to waste bunnies but I shoot out to 150 quite a bit with that same 22 as well. not benchrest targets mind you. The amount it throws you off at low magnifications 2-7x is no big thing for my purposes. the reasonable/cheap ammo i shoot I often wonder if Id even be able to notice parralax if I put her in a gun vice, cranked the mag up and put my eye in the side of the scope shooting at 150.

1- parralax increases with high magnification. So if youre getting a high mag scope get it adjustable.
2- practice putting the reticle in the middle, centering eye in the scope. having the eye off center= more parralax. having the eye close to the center on a scope below 8-9x= unnoticable parralax from what ive read

Go here if you want to calculate PE on your own. or if you want to see examples of actual quantified PE. Ex. for a 2-7x28 with parallax set for 60 the PE is 1.75MOA@20 yards and 0.35MOA @ 100 yards. THAT IS MAX however- assuming that your eye is at the corner of the scope which is unlikely.

Or are you looking for true 1MOA capability, which many rimfires are capable of with the correct ammo.
Last year I had a fixed parallax Bushnell rimfire (preset to 50yds) on my Savage .22WMR (a cheap scope that came as combo package).
1.5" groups at 100m were about as good as it would do...though it was dead accurate at 50m.
Last fall put a decent Hawke Tacktical scope on it...20x and parallax adjustable.
This past weekend I tried for some serious groups. Shot five 5 shot groups (100m).
Four of them the group could be covered by a nickel.
To me it was worth upgrading the scope...it turned an acceptable shooting gun into a tack driver.
