I'm cleaning out the safe and this is a pistol that hasn't seen a round thrugh it in 10 years or more.

I think a S&W revolver is in my future and I plan on trading or selling the Colt.

My question is, would this piece be more attractive to a collector or a shooter? It's in nice shape. It's marked "Shanghai Municipal Police".

I'm sure they're out there, but I haven't seen any other ones myself.

The slide is at Epps right now having the extractor replaced. Other than that it's nice!

Thanks for any information!

Bogart used a 1903/1908 in .32 ACP in the classic movie Casablanca.

Is yours .32 ACP or .380 ACP?

The Colt 1908 pocket hammerless is in .380 ACP.

Had one of these models as described above. Sold it in the EE ~ couple years ago for $250 IIRC.

Hard to get any kind of $$ for 12(6) prohibs.

Plus the Shanghai models had some specified mods right from the Colt factory over a standard M 1908 pocket hammerless. ie. different grips, milled bit in the slide, lanyard loop on the butt of the frame, magazine drilled to show # of rounds:

thanks for the info.

this thread has generated some interest in the pistol.

i've done some research, and these pistols are sought after by collectors, those lucky enough to have a 12(6) of course.

the original grips and original magazine make it more desirable, which i'm happy to say i have.

Personally, I love the little Colt "pocket autos".

Both the M1903 .32ACP and the M1908 .380's.

Couple others I have:

Man I love these things. Being a pistol lover its a shame I cant buy these. Doesnt cost much to get a nice collection of old collectible pocket pistols and snubs. Even if the price rose to fair market value in Canada.

yep, going to someone who already has appreciation for the SMP Colt. glad to see!

and i'll put the cash back into a firearms i'll appreciate!

capitalism at its best.

thanks for all the info.
