STI ambi-safety breakage

News to me.....I have 10's of thousands of rounds through STI's and have never broke one. I have never seen one break on any 1911 for what it's worth.
Must be the MIM experts at large....

Been reading on the net that STI ambi-safeties are prone to breakage.

Anyone had the problem?

where have you been reading those?

reason i ask is i would love to know if this is actually a thing - have a new build coming and was gonna go with them again. my current classic, the trojan has approx. 10k through it over the last 6 months or so with no signs of any issues.

I googled 'review of STI ambi-safety'. Why would it matter if the shooter was right or left handed?

I've got an original Swenson ambi on my Series '70 Gold Cup and it has always been a joy. Double Tap and ARMCO wouldn't be selling STI ambis if there was a problem.

That answers what would have been my next question. I presume that my Swen-safe is a forged part, which explains why it has not failed in service.

MIM parts seem to work best in a low-stress application.

I am having problems with my safety but haven't had the time to take it apart to see what is wrong but it feels like it might be broken. I would be interested to hear if any other have had problems as well.

Interesting timing......the right side amb on my custom Trojan just broke last night....wiggling the left side to remove and the right side snapped near the pin. Looks like bad cast...but not sure. This is a fairly new piece.
Needless to say, replacing with an SVI ambi with larger left side rest......and while at it, replacing slide stop, mag release, and magwell with SVI as well.
