375 h&h, I want one

I've got a couple. Ones a CZ 550 Magnum with a few tweaks like added cross-bolts and a Model 70 style safety. It's got more than a few miles on it. The other is a Remington 700 out of the custom shop. The biggest reason I bought that one was the lumber on it, but it has hunted on 4 continents and has 9 buffalo to its credit. I haven't quite forgiven it for only holding 3 down, its surpriseingly easy to shoot dry on buffalo.Someday I'll get around to converting to a model 70 safety.

My rifles tend to be evenly split between CRF and pushfeeds. They either work or they don't.


Don't overlook the Model 70, its a solid fast handleing rifle without the clubby feel some big guns get.
 
I have a Ruger No. 1 375 H&H. I was shocked to find out that I love 375 H&H. I perform the best with the 375H&H provided that I am quite a recoil-sensitive shooter.
With the heavy rifle like the Ruger No.1, the felt-recoil is so mild that I could shoot 50 rounds at bench position with no ill-effcts.
I coudl have shot more of course, but prohibited by the costs of ammo apparently.
Very accurate up to 200 yards with my limited skills.
 
I also have a Ruger No. 1 in .375 H&H. Very pleased with it, as said, the extra weight of the No.1 helps tame the recoil somewhat, and if you replace that "hockey puck" recoil pad with a limbsaver or the like, it becomes quite comfortable to shoot.
 
A 375Magnum does't need to weigh more than 9lbs loaded as the recoil is not unmanageable. Any rifle that weighs more than that is too heavy.
 
bought a Browning ABolt Medallion with Boss last year at LeBarons for $835 when they have their 20% off sale around fathers day I believe. With the Boss it tames the recoil considerably but you can also fine tune the harmonic vibration from any bullet and ammunition. Very accurate, very pretty with beauty walnut and cam with the regular cap if you want to remove the Boss. Also the TO Sportsman show is on Feb 7-10 and you may be able to wrangle a deal there. go get em.
 
About 5 years ago i bought an M03 in 375 H&H , it's a bit pricey but it's an awesome gun.
Few months later bought a 300 Win barrel and didn't disappoint either ,that set trigger is amazing.

I think it all depends on the preference of the user, my BRNO is heavy and I don't mind it a bit.
For example, I have two pre-64 Mod. 70s, a 270 and a 30-06, both are standard rifles with Weaver mounts and lightweight scopes, they weigh in at well over 9 lbs. empty, yet both are comfortable to carry and use.
Heavy by todays standards, but more the norm back in the 1950s... I think.
When I bought my Ruger Alaskan I assumed it would be a light rifle due to the 20" bbl. and the Hogue stock, but with a Leupold 1.5X5 in Warne rings it is over 9.5 lbs. empty.

Nope, as in big case and big bullet. A 404 Jeffery would be nice or even bigger, if you can shoehorn it in the action. You could easily pay $800 for a Pre-64 M70 action in 300 H&H or 375 H&H length (though anyone that strips one of those rifles for the action had better have a damned good reason to do so) and at that rate you're not in much deeper to start with a Zastava rifle as a donor. Granted, it will be rougher and not as slippery as a Pre-64 but way easier to find. Hmm...
 
I picked up a rem XCR in November, last year. I looked for a XCR II but I couldn't find one and my local shops coundnt get one from there supplier. Luckily I had a friend of a friend who happened to have two .375 Hollands and was willing to sell the Remington. I ordered a McMillan classic for it when it showed up but I have been running a factory bdl wood stock. It shoots good and is very manageable to shoot at 8.5pounds.

I plan on shooting it a lot when the weather warms up and the McMillan shows up. Hopefully you find a rifle that you like I the classic round.
 
Nice rifles mentioned above,but dont go and look at the mauser m98 magnum unless your mortgage is payed off.I'll have to run my cz for another 5 yrs. no problem there,I love the cz,but damn that mauser is pretty/shiney.
 
For my latest 375H&H and currently the only 375H&H I own I went with a single shot, stainless steel, camo synthetic stocked, T/C Prohunter.

I had the 28" barrel shortened by Dennis Sorensen (Guntech) on Van Island to 22" with Leupold QD scope base/low rings/Leupold VX3 2.5-8X36mm B&C reticle scope/sling overall weight is 7.5lbs.

I also purchased a 30-06 barrel and had it shortened at the same time with the same basic setup/scope as the 375H&H barrel it weighs in at 7.7lbs.
