I wondered if anyone knew of a gun shop in southern Ontario (ie Toronto to Chatham) that currently has a Marlin 336c in 30-30 in stock?

I've been calling around shops mainly in TO, KW, Hamilton so far looking for one that is in stock. All seem to be sold out right now. I'm headed to the Toronto Sportsman Show Feb 8 and was hoping to hit a couple shops and come home with a nice 336c that day as well, but not looking like it'll happen. I will be heading towards Chatham, Kerwood and that area in the next while, so shops that way are also on my calling list. The closest I've found is that Sail is getting a shipment early March, so right now I'm hoping to get my name on their list to get one when their shipment comes in. My closest local shop told me that Marlin is slow in filling orders so even if I custom ordered they couldn't tell me when I might get it. I have a few more shops to call, and was going through the dealer list the other day of the shops that don't have websites and will start calling them as well. Just wondered if anyone else knew of smaller shops that stock marlin that might have one sitting around?

Right now Sail seems to have the best price at $449. Any thoughts out there of where to go looking? I'd like to pick it up in person, so places like Epps are out of the question at the moment as won't be up that way for awhile, although I'm hoping to plan a dedicated trip to Epps this summer. Want to verify fit before ordering online or anything like that.

Thanks so much.

Put a wanted ad on the EE.
For $449, plus tax, plus---, you could get a really good older 336 with a bullseye, which would be far superior in quality.

They are never to be found when looking for one, especially if you impose a short timeline to acquire one.
One could place a WTB advert in the EE or check back every other day in the appropriate section and search there.
But, sure as bears siht in the woods the day you close a deal on a 336c that your sweet on, there will be three more that will make you wish you held out a bit longer.
Epps, has great service and selection, there isnt much one can not find out by asking the people in customer service...for example you mention fit, simple to ask if stock has been modified or one tell from pictures.
Mail Order can be daunting at first, but it is certainly a viable option as postage is less expensive than driving around the country side burning fuel at $1.25-$1.31 per L.
Happy Hunting and Tight Groups,
Rob

If you do go to Sail I would call the store the day you plain on going to make sure they even have them instock. Sail is famous for not having some guns instock, make sure the guy goes and checks. Even saying early March does mean they will come in, if Marlin is slow right now it might be awhile. As much as I hate it try Lebarons, they might also have them instock. Is there any reason you want the 336c ? I know your looking to pickup but Epps have alot of 336BL instock right now. I own one and my father inlaw has an older 336. There isn't that much differance in the two beside a few inches off the barrel and the bigger loop which helps durning the fall hunt. If you want the gun bad enough a trip up Epps isn't that bad, for the $20 in gas it cost me from Orangeville and the 2+ hours I can spend there going through alot of stuff it's worth it.

I called Lebaron, they are out as well. Trying triggers and bows in brantford tomorrow as they just got in a big shipment yesterday when i called and they asked for a day or so to go through the boxes to take full stock of what came in. I may keep calling sail if I can't find one. I do want to make a trip to epps sometime, just wasn't in the cards just yet. They do list one in stock on their website right now. See what happens and where I can find one. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Did you try Shooter choice in Waterlooo and The Gun Centre in Kitchener ?

I did, but they don't have any and couldn't say when I could even possibly have one with custom ordering one. That's my closest shop and hoped to do business there, but even they are telling me to call around. i've had great service in there over the years. I have thought of looking on EE but still would really like to pick it up in person, more of a personal preference. Thanks again guys, greatly appreciate the feedback.

Picking it up in person is one thing but if you watch the EE, thegundealer, joe salter and several others you can pick up a Marlin made from the 1950's to the 1980's for less money and get a better rifle. H4831 knows what he's talking about. In my opinion the new stuff doesn't compare with the older Marlins.

Thanks so much, I'll take a look. I greatly appreciate your help.

There is a gun show in Orangeville tomorrow (3rd). Maybe you could find one there. Then there's the Sportsmans show the following weekend and on the 17th, there is a gun show in Woodstock. Also, if you're checking the smaller gun shops (that's where I get lucky), check Guns 'n Gadgets in Aylmer, Gators Sporting Goods in Wyoming, Goble's in both Tillsonburg and London, Fred's Gun Repair in Delhi, Eli's Guns in Simcoe etc. There are a lot of these smaller gun shops and don't get as many phone calls and internet inquiries, so MAY have one. A phone call is cheap. I can give you more names of lesser known shops if you need them. Also, there is a Fishing/Hunting store in Stratford that has 25% off everything. I heard they might be closing? Can't verify. I was by there the other day. No one there, but there is still some stock. Maybe worth a call as well. Hope this helps in your endeavour. Good luck!

My wife would hate you (because I take her with me to check them out) but if you want to share names of more stores, by all means do so.

For the OP, maybe give The Rack & Roost (in Brussels) a call. I know he had a used 336 there a while back, but I can't say if it was a C model.

As others have hinted at, Marlin is not the company it used to be and their recent offerings have been horrible with barrel out of index, poor stock fit, sometimes non-funcitonal out of the box. I would look for an older one, pre-1990's would be ideal, and they are fairly easily found in like-new condition.
