Anyone know how the new Remington 870 Express pumps are? I want something with barrel length under 20 inches. With Cylinder choke. Any help be great. Also your opinion on other shotguns/

870 Express is pretty crappy IMHO. The finish is terrible, and for less money a Mossberg is just as reliable, but with a better finish.

I also have to say that the Mossberg Maverick 88 is a hell of a gun for the money, and I have had a couple over the last few years that took everything I could throw at them and keep on going.

I bought a Rem 870 express tactical 2 weeks ago at Wholesale Sports in Edmonton for $370. 16", no choke though. The finish seems just find to me.

I should clarify my issues with the finish...

If you get it wet, it rusts quicker than any gun I have ever seen. The finish seems to soak up water and develop a surface rust in the blink of an eye. OK not quite that fast, but to the point it needs attention ASAP after getting wet, or even exposure to condensation, which I never really worried about before one of these guns.

That said, if you keep the gun soaked in oil you won't have that issue. The finish will hold the oil well, but it needs some TLC to stand up to the elements.

Comparing to my Mossberg, and Maverick it is a pain to worry about. The Maverick is my Deer gun for the controlled hunt here in Southern Ontario, and it goes through a week of rain and dampness every year, and never an issue. The guys with 870 Expresses all have guns with a red tint to them at the end of the day if theres is any rain.

Thanks, was wondering more on Remington, as thats the shotgun we use at work. I was looking at a instructor course and you need a 870. But ill look into all. Anyone ever duracoat their 870?

There is a thread about duracoating an 870 up right now.

Yes it's my thread and after duracoating my grizzly/870 I am ordering lots and I am going to duracoat every firearm I own except my stainless handguns cause they are too purdy lol...the factory finish comes off Remington's or mossbergs with little to no effort and I noticed that when I used tru strip degreaser on them, they instantly went silver and removed all the finish! They just don't make em like they used to

I've had the Maverick 88 for 6 years. I put the 18" barrel and a pistol grip on it. It's my truck gun. It fits nicely in a TacStar soft case. I don't shoot with it very often but it's never failed me.

Look at the new Winchester SXP Defender. Got mine in December for 300 plus tax. Have put about 100 rounds thru it, no hiccups, smooth and easy action.
