OK - did I miss this story earlier. No doubt that this is a good choice over the L9 (226)

For a general issue Pistol I would say the Glock or something simular is clearly the best choice. Its simple to operate and reliable, great for a big army.

I have to agree with striker fired for a general issue pistol. No doubt for an enthusiast the 226 is a nice pistol, but for a general issue gun the the glock with its reputation for ease of use and reliability would be my choice as well.

The Sig is better but the Glock cheaper, that's what it comes down to in a time when UK is drastically reducing the defense budget.

Why? I see no good reason to choose a DA/SA pistol in this day and age.

The Glock is a great gun but the SIG P226 (IMO) is superior. Look at who uses it and has used it. The Glock is used for two reasons, price and realiablity. The P226 is as realiable but cost more. Striker fired over DA/SA is a preference, I prefer DA/SA over striker. I agree for a general issue 2ndary, the Glock is probably the way to go based on cost.

This is usually said by people who can't shoot DA/SA pistols. I'd take the P226 as well but nothing wrong with the glock. Both have proved themselves. Like others have already mentioned, it comes down to cost which is also why the U.S chose the Beretta 92 over the P226.

Almost looks like they photoshopped the slide to make it look longer - camera angle?

To my mind the SIG is designed for people who are right handed only - imo that is a poor choice for a weapon that will be used in an emergency at war (what if your shooting hand is injured?)

Learn to shoot off-handed.

The same can be said for the Glock:

A skilled shooter with a DA/SA pistol can equal what is possible with a single trigger pull, but how is the more difficult to learn system better, especially given the minimal training given to most military pistol users?

I've had several Sigs (3 226's, 220) still have the Sig 1911 and used to have a 228 knock off...They are nice, well made guns but Glock makes more sense IMO. It's cheap, light and simple to use.
