I have removed the bayo on my SKS and was wondering if anyone has removed the lug off the barrel. I was thinking about using a dremel and then just sanding the rest. Any ideas? Has anyone else done this, if so can you explain what you did (ie the grit you used, etc) and maybe provide some pics.

Thanks

Easy job. Cut the lug off a s close to the barrel as possible and then blend it into the barrel with a sharp new file. Files don't go back and forth they only cut on the push stroke. as you get close to done rub some chalk on the file and don't push as hard. good luck.

Not to hijack, but what does the chalk do?

I took the bayo off my tapco'd sks just to get a different look, and a little less weight since it's the sks I shoot the most.
I've thought about cutting the lug off but kinda dont wanna in case I change my mind and put it back in it's org stock.
