Tikka T3 Varmint DBM options?

I'm just kinda testing the waters here and looking for options for dressing up my T3 Varmint.

I have a Tikka T3 Varmint 6.5x55 that I am planning on dropping in to a McMillan A4 stock, and I am wondering if I have the option of replacing the factory plastic with a DBM offering? Has anybody replaced their factory T3 Varmint factory plastic and if so, could you share results/findings?

Thanks for any help/advice.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but wouldn't the 6.5x55 be a long action caliber? If that's the case, CDI is your only option as(right now)they are the only ones that are making long action DBM kits for the Tikka.
Otherwise, Atlas Roedale and CDI all make short action DBM kits. Atlas would be the best value for a short action.

I will post pics for sure; just gonna take a while. I have not yet ordered my stock; I have to wait to hear back from McMillan to see if they inlet for CDI bottom metal from factory. Here's hoping!

I'm sure they will. But on the off chance that they don't, I know for a fact that Manners will inlet for CDI.
 
I did the review of the Roedale Precision bottom metal, very nice but it requires a lot of fitting. (if you search for my name in this forum it should come up around Christmas time)

I think Mystic Precision carries CDI stuff (which I have heard require a lot of fitting too), unless you're very experienced doing stock work and fine 'carving' or have a mill (or a drill press with a milling type bed) then I'd say let a pro inlet the stock.


I personally really like the R-P one as it's got a giant trigger guard. It also has a fittable steel release and you can file down the little cutout in the bottom metal where the mag latch sits (it's cut at an angle so you can get a file into that area and not tough anything else), so you can get the mags to sit higher up. I just recently did that so the mags sit higher up and have better more reliable feeding.
 
For short action - Atlasworxs is probably your cheapest option. Uses AICS mags and is very well made. I've been told it's a Badger M5 'clone', so the inletting is the same.

$165 CDN to my door - no border hassles/customs/taxes. Right from Austrailia.Bought one for my T3 varmint in .223... now I need to figure out if inletting the stock tupperware is worth it, or if I should just move to a McMillan! :)

Straight from McMillan " We do have the CNC programming for the CDI bottom metal for the Tikka T-3 and we do install a steel recoil lug in our stocks inletted for the Tikka T-3 rifles."

Unfortunately, much to my chagrin, the McMillan A4 is only available for Remington and Winchester actions (also straight from McMillan), so there goes my dream of my Tikka in an A4.... " For the Tikka T-3 we have versions of the A-2, A-3, Adj. A3-5 and A-5 that can be inletted for the Tikka actions."
