S&W K22 Masterpiece

I just bought one that I'm pretty sure is the same as that. It is a K17, not sure what exact model. I do know that it has the target trigger and hammer.

It has serial # K56###x so I'm guessing it is a little older than the OP.

This is the seller's picture, it's in the mail right now on the way to me!

If its got the K and 6 digit serial number than its a 1964 K22 Masterpiece the Model 17-2 but those are the wrong grips chances are it originally came with either the Dymond Magnas or the Dymond Targets they discontinued the Dymond grips around 1968 only way to know forsure is to get a letter from Roy Jinks hes the S&W Historian that writes out the S&W Letters. Those grips that are on there didnt come in till around 1981-82 with the cutouts for the speed loaders..
Just in case you wanted to know

Yes you got a great revolver the Model 17-2 (A.K.A. K22 Masterpiece )This is what they were called them before 1957 cause thats when S&W started putting Model Numbers on the guns you'll be very happy with it there great tack drivers once you got them sighted in it will shoot better then you LOL! These guns hold their value too there getting harder to find as most dont want to part with them i have 5 different K22's and none are for sale i love mine Enjoy!!..

I could be wrong, but I thought the 3't's were Hammer, Trigger, Stocks. I think pretty well all the guns had factory partridge sights.

Thanks for the info, I'm new to the K-22, learning a lot from this thread and researching. I just knew that I needed to have one, and think that the one I picked up is a beautiful pistol. I can't wait to take it out and shoot it. On anther happy note, I just got my Colt King Cobra back from getting it reblued, and Armco did a fantastic job. I originally was going to send it to the Colt Custom shop, but the cost and the time frame involved was prohibitive. I'm planning on shooting it till it needs doing again anyway, and I'm very impressed with the job that was done on it. I'll post a few pics later. TC

Can't help you with your serial number Monty, I'm a nube to the K-22 as well (for now!)....but here are a few pics of my King Cobra, loving that deep shine! Dang, I'm loving wheelguns lately.....I thought I was a die hard Sig (auto) guy, but maybe I'm 'Bi-shootual'?

I had one and somehow let it get away.
Mine was marked R.C.M.P so I guess it was used as a training pistol when
The 38 revolver was standard issue.
I'm still kicking myself after all these years!

Boooo, my 17-4 doesn't have a K series serial number. What would AEY###x indicate?

M

Does your 17-4 have the pinned barrel they eliminated the pinned barrel in 1982 the 3 letter prefix serial numbers started around 1980 on the L frames like 586's, 686's ect..so i would say between 1980-1983 was the transition peroid on the 3 leter prefixes on the K frames . Your serial would be in late 1984-early 1985 therebouts yours may be a non-pinned barrel. They made the 17-4 from 1977-to mid 1987
