GSG 1911 Experiences, Tips, Tricks, Mods & Parts

Went to the range today, had a blast!

I was not really paying attention to accuracy I think its shooting a little low at 40 yards and a little high at 20. Today was a balmy 3 degrees and the range is outdoor with 6“ of snow so I really was not to into running up and checking the targets. We where shooting clays on stands and diet coke cans (shaken not stirred) and a resetable target and a few leftover silhouettes from our local Leos. I have concluded that the gun is more accurate than I (at least for now we shall see when it warms up) perhaps I will play with the sights I hope to get it accurate to 25 yards.

Anyways... Ammo...
CCI Stingers 80 rounds, Winchester super X high velocity 50 rounds, Winchester super x super speed RN 20 rounds, CCI Blazers 50 rounds, Remington vipers 30 rounds, dynapoints 10 rounds and 10 rounds of 555. (Approximately)

CCI stingers worked great 2 rounds no bang but fired when loaded in the next mag.
WIN Super X HV worked pretty good a few did not go bang but fed and cycled fine when they did, one would not fire even on a third go.
WIN Super speed RN was good all 20 rounds worked but I would like to try it more before I weigh in...
CCI Blazers worked really good one or two did not fire on the first go but all ended up down range.
Remington vipers sucked could not get it to feed.
WIN Dynapoints & 555 was a waste of time not 2 rounds in a row would go...

** only one stovepipe all day.

Most of the failed rounds had a stike on the rim though there was a hand full of times where the manually ejected round had no strike I am not sure why... feed problem? Thoughts?

I have 2 mags one of the mags functions flawlessly drops freely every time when I push the mag release, the other mag however will not drop freely with the slide locked open. I can either release the slide and then it drops freely or I can pull it out with my fingers using the lip of the base plate... the mag looks fine...

Anyone else seen this before and have a fix?

My GSG required a few bricks to break in, after that the malfunctions became quite rare. At the 2000 round mark it ran just as reliably as my 10/22. My advice is to put more rounds through it before you worry about malfunctions and double check that the chamber is clean.

As for the mag issue, I have 3 mags myself and have not had that issue.

Pat at Blue Line , I think it was Pat damn I'm bad with names. treated me better than I deserved. I have some front sights on the way.

Noticed that the paint is wearing on the barrel, im not sure that is normal... But the paint on the slides seems to be holding up.

Is it wearing on the right side where the thread cap and barrel connect? Normal because when the take down screw is tightened it "pulls" the barrel slightly to the right side.
You should get better results when you GSG breaks in more and when the weather warms up a bit.

That's exactly where its wearing maybe just lower than center.

I think there is something with the cold and the win bulk it was having troubles in the ruger take down, mossberg 715t, remy 597, and the norc m93....

I've been following this thread with interest as my Christmas present to myself was a GSG1911 and last night was the first time I've been able to get to the range.
Loaded up a selection of ammo, about 500 rounds in total.
First I tried the Blazers, as it is the round that gives me no failures whatsoever in my Mossberg 715T (which is notoriously ammo pick).
A 100 rounds without a single failure.
Then tried some Federal Eagle Coated. Four FTF in two mags.
Next was CCI Mini Mag. A couple of FTF in the first mag.
Two mags of RWS Target (not copper coated)...no issues.
Then another 100 of Blazers without a single issue.
I'm very pleased with the gun. Fit and finish is nice, and it appears that with the proper ammo it is very reliable. For some reason it doesn't like copper coated.
My friend had his Colt Model 70 at the range and he was very impressed with the feel of the GSG. As well he has a CZ 75 with the .22 conversion kit which was a lot less reliable than the GSG.

Hi I am wondering the same things you are, love my GSG 1911 22, but want to up grade it a little... make it more accruate, all though it shoots fine now... Just Me.. I want to add some after market stuff.. not into illeagal stuff, just want to make the gun shoot like my other 1911's

not sure you can make it more accurate save for a trigger job. I find mine already had an excellent trigger out of the box thought

Hey there you are the fellow I have been searching for, You seem to have done just what I want to do for my GSG1911 22!! It shoots fine like it is, BUT there is all ways those of us who want to drive tacks! I am a great believer in cone bushings, all 1911 seem to shoot better with them... I'm new to gun nutz and seem to spend a lot of time just reading #### that does me no good.. I used to spend alot of money @ Brownells, but I guess that an Obama casuality!! Barry

this site might have a few parts you might be interested in, not sure if they ship up here though

Going to the range again tomorrow got me some mini mags, stingers, and a bulk of blazer.
Also going to bring up some win super speed rn an some win super x HV. Definitely leaving the win bulk home this time save it till it gets warmer and the gun is good and broke in.

What's up with brownells they got some stuff I want...

CW will not ship to Canada. Blueline was trying to work out a deal with them, but I have not seen anything on there site.

Barry were you talking about my cone barrel mod? If so yes it has made lock up very consistent and the barrel is no longer pulled down and to the right by the barrel screw. I am very happy with the modification.

Hi: Have had no problems with mine.... so far! Hpoe to not have any, but none the less, would like to do some modifications on it, problem is; I can't find any place that sells/ships parts to Canada... I would like to put in a solid guide rod, screw on a cone barrel bushing and a new bushing. I see they are available in USA, but no one ships/sells to Canada.... that I have found... any Ideas?

Hi: I believe that is what I am looking for; My "race gun" has one of these, and it is very accurate. It was done in Montana, long, long time ago... so now I would like to know, Are you in Canada?... Sound like you are a Gunsmith, I am interested.....Barry

Hi Again IRC, As you have probably figured out, I'm very new to gunnutz.... Had a hard time finding your post again... So in case you didn't get my reply, Yes, you have done what I want/need done.. I am not a machinist or a gunsmith, so can't do this myself.. I live in Calgary.. I would like to talk to you about this... Barry

2nd range trip today,

Determined the extra mag I bought has a problem it does not feed right and it will not eject freely with the action locked open. My dad has a gsg as well so I tried all three of his mags they worked fine and dropped freely on lock up... I believe most of my feed problems are my mag.

Also I am getting a lot of non struck rounds and have to manually cycle and shake out the round. It may be my grip as my thumb is close to the safety fingers are crossed I will pay close attention where my hands are next time but if things keep going the way they are I might have a safe queen.

Shot stingers, blazers, and mini mags
