Excellent idea. This is almost always better than the store bought snap caps for the simple reasons that they cost a LOT less, and if you use steel cases they will last a LOT longer than the flimsy aluminum or plastic snap caps, both on the case body and on the extractor rim. Military grade arms tend to be unkind on both.I ended up making my own. Used a homemade bullet puller to pop out the bullet, empty powder, pop primer and removed.
Drill out primer pocket and epoxy a piece of pencil eraser in pocket to protect firing pin. Drill a series of holes around the side,
deburr holes and smooth them out. Reinsert bullet and give the whole thing a nice coat of wax. Nice and smooth, easily identified by the holes and white rubber primer.
