this gun is sitting in the safe... CIL model 607 TD series C
3" chambered, wood stock, full choke.
It's a solid gun, meganics are sound...

What to do with it ? Cut the choke off make make a slug gun or service gun for wildlife control (bean bag rounds) ? get it machined to accept interchangable chokes ? Use it to tie my tomato plants in the garden this summer ? Ideas are welcome

Please donate it to me rather than plant it in the garden:) the police destroy enough guns as it is......

I'd personally just use it as-is. Kind of like driving a vintage car. Choke tube tapping costs 100+ bucks.

Sell it. Lots of people would want a 12 gauge full choke, in good condition. No sense in putting good money into $150 gun.

If you want to shoot it take it to a good smith and have the full choke eased to about modified. This will make a decent waterfowling gun and rabbit gun. My uncle used one for years and if he couldn't break it no one can.

Turns out this is the same shotgun I have and mention in another thread. How did you determine it has a full choke?

clean it and use it as is its like going back in time when hunting with one i love my older shotguns i really like it when they have had lots of use and the bluing is worn the storys they could tell

in my one model 12 it has a fixed full choke ive to compensate i have used lighter shot charges to have a little less shot flying in a ball so i dont blow rabbits apart

I've got an old CIL single shot 12ga that I paid a whopping $60 for. I cut it to 22", painted the wood OD green and use it as a bush gun. It's an absolute riot shooting clay with it in the bush (hand throwing).

thanks all for the input. don't worry... no gun is going to destruction on my watch (the tomato thing was a joke).

If I can find a gunsmith that can machine the muzzle for removable chokes at a decent price I think it will be the way I'll go... make a decent camo patern on it and give it a life as a turkey/waterfowl gun (to loan... got 2 nephews groing up fast... 1st one shot his 1st grouse with the 12ga single shot I gave him).

Can anyone tell me if this gun's barrel is thick enough to machine in some threading ???? and recommend a smith in Quebec near Mtl or in Ontario ?

only way to tell thinkness is with the right tools for the job we dont know id sen it to ellwood epps they seem to do a good job

i dont see then need for camo though and it will most likely ever handle steel shot as the barrel was not made for it

the camo thing is more a "because I can" than an actual need. I camoed my nephew's single shot 12ga baikal... he loves it (it does look cool).

I'll contact Ellwood Epps... I've done buiseness with them before and was very satisfied (bought parts)... never thought of them for gunsmithing.

Before you chop it you should do some more research. The TD in the model number I assume means "take down" If that is the case maybe you can find a complete parts gun to chop. Not sure what the savage model number is but that would also help your search.

How about selling it on EE? I adopted a rule sometime ago. Anything that sits in a safe for more than 3 months gets sold because I'm not using it anyway. So, free up some cash. Good idea. RSP season is here :)
