How much is value of a pistol affected by firing it?

For instance, I have SigP239+lasergrips+nightsights. It's about $1300.
How much would you ask for the same pistol after.. let's say, 300 rounds?

Round counts are meaningless in my view since many sellers probably lie about it anyhow. It's a new gun at retail. On the EE I assume they are all used to some degree and expect the price to reflect that, unless its collectible, rare, etc.

A rule of thumb is if it is used you take %20 off the price of the new gun unless it is of course something that is exremly rare and hard to find and then there is no rules as some people will pay more then a new one because they can't get it. Also the taxes are not included in the price either.

75 percent of the original cost unless you look on the ee then its 80 or more lol. this can be said with most anything unless the condition is sub par

I've never lost more than 20% on any gun I've ever sold... again, the condition must be excellent. I put up clear macro images and let the buyer decide... $1000 pistol new, going for $800 is a good deal in my books.

In the OP's situation, it might be better to sell the lasergrips separately, as these add-ons usually don't add value to the gun. P239 is $1050 new so I'd ask $900+shipping and sell the lasergrips in the parts forum.

There are no p239's in stock at Questar and not even available to order right now... so I'd use that to your advantage. Post pics in your ad (all angles, as many as possible), post the ad on Saturday (so it'll still be on the first page on Sunday), etc.

The "unfired" thing doesn't help you that much, maybe a few bucks difference.

unless of course you have a Ruger 10/22, then a $239 gun is worth $450 even tho its had 5000 rounds thru it and some small scratches.

Sorry, just such a huge paradigm shift for me coming from performance cars and car parts. $1500 ball bearing turbo is worth $850 even if its never been installed and still in the original box.

save the tax and it is worthwhile to me even after 300 rounds (unless there is something wrong with the gun).

Take off the accessories and you will get more $$$ for sure, parting it out.

The thing is a gun has the same wear after 100 rounds or 500 rounds, but honesty is the best policy.

20% is steep after such light use, but you will likely have to wait longer to make a sale

Accessories are almost always a big-loss when included with guns.
Revert gun to stock and sell accessories separately.
Cheers~

Tell me about it i just sold a bnib gtx 4508r garrett 1.44 ar turbo i paid 3800 for 2100 it was not ever used ! i have bought more then one gun new and sold it on the ee at no loss . It is more of an investment type hobby depending on how many bullets you end up going through. It is also much more of a brotherhood, because once you own guns you realize there is a huge cry for them to be regulated and outlawed. The community is much more tight knit then the auto enthusiast side of things. I find i get just as much enjoyment and thrill out of shooting, reloading (soon), and gun 'culture'. Too bad all my hobbies are targets of regulation and outlaw.

unless these guns have never have been proofed by the original manufacuterer, there is no such thing as an ' unfired ' gun...... theyv'd all been fired at least once.

I generally look for around 70% of retail for a minty used item to start.50-60% of retail if item is well used/gc.Shipping costs don't help matters.Just cost me an addiional $50 in shipping and money order fees on a $100 used press. And I was fortunate enough to get a good enough deal out of the seller that the additional $50 was still a worthwhile price. At 80%retail plus shipping, the value in buying second hand is lost. The 10-15%saving is not worth not having dealer warranty and
service.Unless its rare/ gotta have it.

For instance... a new Sig 226 is about $925 new, your mint price would be $647.50, Good luck . Again, I've never lost more than 20% on a gun I've sold, so you can dream if you like but you'll never get a Sig for that amount. Glock 17 is around $740, your offer would be $518, again, good luck.

Those who think guns don't hold their value are dead wrong. I've sold a bunch at around the purchase price, buyer just saved taxes and a little bit more... so those of you who believe they lose that much value can dream between puffs :onCrack:

This is cprrect, if a person thinks guns don't hold there value then they haven't seen the prices on Colt Python's lately. Also it is very easy to say that a gun should be a low price when your buying it but put the same guy selling the gun and see what they want for it.

Exactly... the same guy will try to buy low but sell high. Reminds me of someone I know, he makes $80k/year and refuses to tip the waitress a $1 after a meal (leaves no tip). I called him a cheap POS and he agreed with me.

P.S, if someone is selling a firearm at a huge discount, it's in rough shape or something is wrong with it...

The whole unfired thing is misleading. Most of not all guns are test tired at the factory as part of quality control.

Not always, I've baught some guns on the EE that many thought it was too good to be true and they were just fine.
