How about a little NEA love for a change?

I thought I'd give you guys a bit of an update from post #10 . . . I've changed it quite a bit since then. It now sports a Stag upper and BCG. 12" Magpul handguard over an 11.5" S&J barrel. Hera-arms linear compensator. Fab Defense ergo grip, Armalite comm spec buffer tube . . . . only NEA parts left are the lower and trigger group (which is useable now after a lot of "paracord" polishing). If I had to do it all over again I would have gone straight to Stagarms. But, my NEA is from 2011 . . . they hopefully will work out their growing pains . . . and if not, the market will adjust the price and reputation accordingly . . .

correct me if im wrong... 1 lower with 4 uppers?

and wow, you really like your iron sights... no red dots or scopes?

No sir. Irons only. I've rekindled my love affair with iron sights. I have a 7.5" build in the works that might sport a red dot of some kind though.

Consider yourself corrected:

use what you like.
ive got magpul sights, and they are alright, but im going to save up for some good irons after i sort out my scopes and magnifiers.
heres a pic of what ive got.

12.5 NEA - complete
12" rail
AGW Muzzle brake
BCM grip in the pic, now has MIAD
Magpul ACS stock - love this stock.
Cadex vert grip - solid good quality grip, could use some more texture to it, i may stimple it.

10.5 NEA/ Areo
Areo Lower
9"rail
DPMS LPK
AGW Muzzle brake
Ergo Stock - really well made, no wiggle at all, feels like a higher quality than magpul
Magpul MIAD grip
Magpul AGF
magpul BAD lever

and i put FDE paint on the bad lever, mad catch, safety selector, and AGF
it looks lighter, but the flash makes it seem lighter than it is.

im going to be moving the vortex sparc over to the 10.5" and putting a Lucid 2-5x magnifier on a twist or swing mount
ive got a burris QD mount for the 12.5" and ill be putting a 1-4 illuminated scope on it
the optics changes will be done this weekend.
then i may send the 10.5 to be professionally painted, and the plastics dyed to be all matching, i think i can do that part.
i also have to get the trigger pin holders/anti rotation connectors. i need 2 sets.

Here's my 10.5". Just ran 1000 through her on Saturday in the rain at TDSA's tac rifle one course. Ran great. I love it.

ok so who or how did you do this paint job???
it is by far the nicest pattern ive ever seen on a rifle.
looks like you laid down chicken wire on it and then went to town with the paint.

Good looking guns! How do you like the 12.5"?

You're right on about the paint method. I achieved a similar effect using gutter-guard mesh on my CZ 858. Paint the parts you wish with the colour you want your mesh pattern to be. Lay the mesh over the part as tightly as possible, then hit it with a coat of your more dominant colour. The mesh pattern is left behind.

The 12.5 I'd great. I've hammered a lot of round through it the first few weeks I had it but haven't had much time lately to hit the range.
Once I get a scope on it ill sight it in @ 100 and have a reflex sight for 50 eventually.

What are your thoughts on the AGW Muzzle brake? I just bought one for my 10.5 NEA and was wounding how it will change it. I will get pictures up soon

yesterday is the first time ive used them... just didnt have a chance to get out to the range.
great brake, especially for what it costs. i got it to reduce side blast for when im bench shooting, there were a lot of guys at my club complaining and i ended up putting a ammo box to my right to deflect some of the blast.
with the AWG brake it does exactly what i wanted, pushes all the blast forwards and i was surprised at how little muzzle rise there is. my buddy who is military came down and was shooting my rifles and he really liked them, we were able to do quick follow up shots and keep on target.
they reduce the sound to the shooter, it really does throw everything down range. a flash hider on a 10.5 it is not (but its not designed for that)... i was getting some nice fireballs coming out using the norc 5.56 ammo. in comparison with barrel length, on the 12.5 there was minimal flash.

i would have to compare it side by side to a A2 to tell you if it reduced recoil but lets get real...its a .223/5.56 there isnt exactly a lot of recoil to begin with. for me, i want something to keep on target and keep the blast away from my friends to the left and right, and look cool, this brake fits the bill.
i think i sold about 3-5 guys on them yesterday.

and not that it really matters, but ive got a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x on the 12.5 now and the Sparc has moved to the 10.5

Thanks for the quick answer. I look forward to putting it on the gun now. here is the picture of it so far since I am not done the build

mine is a leupold vx-r zombie scope.
any chance you know what cover you put on the front? model, size...any info...
I was at 2 shops today trying to fit one on my VX-R and they were either too big or too small.
i found a butler creek tactical cover for the eyepiece, its nice, all rubber 1 piece design.. i broke the other hinged designed ones hunting on my rifle this season, this one looks much better.

oh... damn.i didnt know they made one for the front. ill have to order the front one somehow. both leupold dealers told me they only made rear ones.
mine is a 30mm tube, 1.25-4 VX-R illuminated.
