I got a 'pleasant' suprise yesterday. A while ago, Ruger brought out the No. 1 in 303Br. I like the idea and concept of a single shot in 303 but my preference would be a more era appropriate platform. I've had a number of Ruger No. 1's, great rifle but not what I had in mind for a single shot in 303. I have a friend that's into older high end rifles and shotguns and yesterday he gave me the loan, for an unlimited time span, of a 303Br. single shot by John Rigby & Co. of London, Field's Patent Breech

I have some 174gr. FMJs, 215gr. Woodleigh and a 'quantity' of 185gr.GC cast loaded up for the next 'play date' at the range:D.
 
Beautiful rifle Johnn, I hope it does eventually stay in your gun safe.

Well, I guess my favorite display or picture is when 'the pieces' of one are resting comfortably, in the deep freeze. They get free room & board for the winter. Other than that, in my den etc, there are quite a number that I have around for a decorative touch, one of which is the one you've made mention of. Those posted are only a small number of the total herd. I'll try and introduce more:p.
 
Great to see those Moose, Johnn ( as well as that fine rifle ! ).
I will have to take a pic of the one that has stayed in my truck cab for 20 + yrs....

In all seriousness I have seen few rifles lately that have stirred my blood like that classic single shot.

Ya, it's kind of a sweetheart. I'm trying to find out what scope, if any, would've been used on something like that in that era. The upside, I apparently have it for a very lengthy period of time. The downside, the owner buys 'good stuff' but doesn't sell much. To 'adopt' it, I'll have to put in a real effort.

Well, part of the reason I'm thinking of a scope set-up is eyesight isn't quite what it once was. I think it changed when we went metricLaugh2.

I was thinking if I could find something fitting or era specific I might go for it. Something sort of matching and along the lines of what I have on my old Winchester High Wall in 219 Donaldson Wasp. It's wearing a 10X J.UNERTL. Here's a couple I've posted previously, to show what I'm getting at.
