SKS Jamming

When you begin adding aftermarket mag, you are likely to have problems, not all the time, but the SKS original mag are still better IMAO.
Joce

Was having feeding issues with my original mag and they were solved by replacing with a tapco mag but to be fair I've never used a truly original SKS mag as I'm sure the vast majority of SKS shooters in Canada haven't either :(

Hey Guys. I am having a similar problem with my feed. Mine is jambing up the first round fed in when I load by hand. It seems the bullet is tilted too far down. It goes half way in and gets stuck. Then I have to pull the bolt carrier back and throw it forward a second time to fully load the cartrage. I am using the tapco 20 round mad with a block inside that limits it to 5 rounds. Is ramping it the best solution? Other solutions welcome. Thanks.

I will have to post pics later when I get home. I did forget to mention that the tapco mag has the first round loading from the right side of the mag. When the mag is full it looks like this.

...1
2
...3
4
...5

on my sks im using the tapco mag i do some minor mod , i do a little feed ramp near the chamber and it work perfect with that , before it always jamming a the 3 round

do some little chamfer just to broke the corner and the bullet will stop jamming

I am going to borrow this image. I just bought my first SKS and did a total strip down and clean with mag apart and firing pin out of bolt following the sticky at the top. resembled with oil in proper places. I made sure to seat the magazine properly. The first 5 shots worked like a hot damn. WOOOHOOO I love this thing! But then seemingly randomly, the second or 3rd shot will hit the area pointed to straight on and jam. any suggestions?

Are you riding the bolt carrier forward when loading? I've seen that cause jams before.

If you're having problems with both mags, I would think the issue could be the actual magazine well being out of spec.

One of my recent SKS rifles has the capacity reduced by a metal protrusion pinned onto the follower. This made the follower stiff. It is supposed to tilt back and forth freely.

It had a tendency to be tilted forward too much. I think it just naturally ends up that way after feeding rounds into it.

I fixed it by simply working it back and forth a lot until it loosened up. Now it's fine.

Interesting. Mine seems to have a metal piece bonded to the bottom of the follower to take up the "illegal space" I shall tinker around with it and see. I think the bullets are feeding too level or pointed slightly down. It appears to be completely random.

Actually I believe that it is your sping in side of the internal magazine could be worn out or your follower could be hanging up on something. Check for wear marks on the tab located on the inside of the the mag well closest to the trigger. If there is a vissible mare line on the bolt hold open tab then you know its that issue. If not and that tab freeley moves up and down with your finger while the rifle is completely stripped then I would say that it's the spring inside of the magazine and there for you should look for a Tapco magazine.

DING DING DING......Winner!

This is exactly what was going on. Mine, like yours, had a metal spacer pinned through where the little follower pad pivots. This pinning was done too tight. I worked it back and forth and side to side and today at the range it ran thru 100 rounds flawlessly. MAN I LOVE THIS GUN! $150 boxing day special for matching numbers Russian SKS! So snappy but with not much kick at all. I am in love. But man does it make you hate our magazine laws!

Thanks guys! Good tips. I am going to give it a shot. I am going to run the SKS in CQB for fun, so i hope to get this issue out of the way.
