Hello, I am considering either Daniel Defense MK18 or Sig Sauer 516. Which one is a better over all rifle?

Your opinions and knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Daniel Defense is direct impingement, Sig is piston. Sig parts are pricey, the daniel defense is a normal ar with higher qc parts. easier to get parts IF something breaks, sig, you might be waiting. The rest of piston vs di, you can research yourself. Both are good rifles, or in case of the sig based on their history I would assume it's a good rifle.

Another thing to consider for the sig, I don't know what their retail is now but last time I checked in most places its 2700 which is rec7 or knights sr15 money. And I'm not sure the sig is knights good.

DD AR's has been around for a long time and reputation well proven, Sig AR's are recent addition to their product line, there just hasn't been enough time for a good durability data, at this point anything that is said will be based on their name alone.

Really?? According to DD website, Daniel Defense was born in 21st century.

When did Sig Sauer started making rifles?

Sig ARs are new and not to be confused with bolt actions of the past.

Personally between the two I'd take the Sig. Short stroke piston and I like the rail better. They are both good quality (assumably) chrome-lined 1:7 10.5ish" AR 15s with quad rails. Performance is probably damn near identical. No one on the board owns a CQB Sig as they are just now importing the USA Sigs into Canada and the German ones are rare and new as well. Heck even the SBR Daniel Defense is relatively new to our market, at least in the last few years...

Yeah we've known about them but through all of 2011 and most of 2012 they were not available in Canada...

I actually asked Tactical Imports to get the 10.5" in and they said they couldn't that only German made ARs would be allowed in. As the 10.5" was on the German site I asked them to recheck and was again told no, that those were the US ones.

Sig offer both DI and piston AR. I am interested of buying one but I would like some real reviews before buying a $2000 paperweight.

Sig doesn't offer the 10.5" in DI. As he mentioned the MK18, the piston gun is the closest comparable. WTF Dietz, nice post...NOT.

Both are good guns.

This discussion of what you should buy might be limited to what you "can" buy due to supply and demand. I was making the same decision a few months ago and these two brands came up. My suggestion is take what is available, these are two comparable products but both are scarce . There are a few sig AR's floating around up here and the reviews are good. Both companies have an excellent reputation. Personally, if both were equally available, I would take the sig piston as I see added value for a negligible difference in price. That being said, I go back to my original position of buying what you can get your hands on.

Both will most likely serve you well, both will have easy lives in Canada considering ...

I've cleaned this thread up. Let's try to keep this friendly and on-topic. We need to learn to be polite and help each other out.

One dealer is accepting special order request on Sig 10" barrel. Too bad they can't bring the 14.5" ones. It would have been perfect.

Just checked the German sight and found no 10.5" model.

It was in the German DEFENSE not sport catalogue. They didn't list the 7.5 or AK magazine model but the 10.5 and 7.62 were in there both made in the USA. Now I see they don't list the defense catalog or weapons, just the sport. Guess we're not even allowed to look anymore...
