Brampton On,
hey

i was talking to a guy at epps and he was telling me the rcmp would try and take the a acr and charge me even if i had it re-barreled to non restricted, regardless of proving it to a cop / ministry officer, and even though they could probably look up the frt# ? then a guy beside me said his buddy got his mossberg tactical 22 taken for that reason they thought it was restricted ar, and his buddy hasn't gotten it back for two years or so , he's still trying to prove it. Has anyone run into any authority types in the bush with their scary non restricteds ?

thanks

Mw

Scary, I was hunting deer this season for an afternoon or 2 with my sks ati stock and 30/5 Mag. Was doing some bush waxking and my reg hunting rifle has a scope. Wonder what johhny law would have said had he seen me with that and an orange vest lol

I only shoot on crown land, been approached countless times as the area I frequent is very busy. Pretty much only have "black" ish rifles. Tavor, XCR, RFB, CZ858, and some "scary" looking .22's. Always running 10 rounders in the ones I'm aloud and have never had an issue. Conversation generally goes, got your license handy? any alcohol being consumed today? Have a good one. Our CO's seem to know what's going on out here.

Scary, you actually pay attention to what a gun store employee have to say.:p
I wouldn't be surprise if somebody reads this story and try to tell someone else how this is a true story that happened to a close buddy of his. :D

This is pretty much the reason I have no plans to take mine outside of the range. That, and Essex county has ridiculous rules about calibers that are acceptable/unacceptable.

We've run into CO's more than a couple times in the bush, normally their as happy to have a friendly chat as we are, never once have I been so much as asked for a license or anything. This often takes place while we're wearing LBE and carrying our black rifles, and still the conversation has always been friendly. Typically their happy to have more competent eyes in the field as their already overworked and covering to much ground with to few guys.

I am glad I am never harassed while shooting... driving on the other hand.

Respectfully, if your source for firearms legislation news is a clerk at a gunstore you are very poorly informed. I normally, don't ask the minimum wage part-timer filling the shelves at the drugstore to help me with my complicated aches and pains. That is why there is a pharmacist.

There are so many rumours about firearms laws that just because "the cops" did something, doesn't mean anything. Until you get it from an authoritative source DON'T REACT TO RUMOURS. (And I'm shouting at you for a reason.)

i don't think i will ever go back there. last time it looked like a bunch of wanna-be gangsters were trying to make their rifle run full auto. on the way out there were at least 5 RCMP cruisers at the end of the road watching people come out.

Sorry for a thread hijack but important info for all Sylvester road shooters in BC.

It's a real dump up there. Shot gun shells and spent casing everywhere. All sorts of garbage people have dragged up to shoot to pieces and then just leave. Really gives good responsible shooters a bad name.

As to the large RCMP and CO presence up there. That has mostly to do with the fact they are enforcing the Davis Lake provincial park boundaries now. It's clearly marked up the road when you enter and when you leave the provincial park area. There is no motor vehicles allowed on the trails in the provincial park and no shooting. It's these people they are targeting.

Also there is a lot of active forestry work going on up there again with signs posted showing camp and work areas with big signs saying no shooting.

So shooters beware.

I will be up there this Sunday most likely in my Unimog shooting.

As for an RCMP officer or CO taking my non-restricted black rifle from me because of how it looks. Even if they were this stupid, which many aren't. I would never give it up as they are violating the laws of Canada and my civil rights.

They can charge you with anything they want. Then the prove lies on them. You don't have to prove anything, the burden of proof lies on them. Remember you're innocent until proven guilty! Not the other way around! :HR:

Exactly! How can they seize it from you without a warrant?

In my experience co's and rangers have more firearms knowledge than police. Perhaps because hunting directs them to that field as appose to policing. Either way if your in the right be addament that your right and ask for their supper isles card and the seizing officers if ANYTHING gets taken.

I think what a lot of people are forgetting is that an officer can make use of NWEST on the spot to verify if the firearm is indeed restricted or non-restricted. That's the whole point of that program, in order to provide front line officers with the information they need.

NWEST can access the FRT and query the officer on the make and model, and inform the officer if there is in fact a non-restricted version based on barrel/overall length.

At least, this is the way I understand it. Any officer who chooses to confiscate based on his "opinion" in the field, isn't using all the resources that are in fact available to him at the time.

Your right it is a dump up there, that's why when I leave i always pack a garbage bag full of shells & detrius with me. Not only for the reason of cleaning up my own mess but IF I do get pulled over or questioned it goes a long way in showing that you are indeed one of the responsible ones. Sylvester isn't as bad as some make it out to be but like any large group of people there are idiots out there that'll riun for the rest of us. I'm gonna try and make it up there this Sunday as well, if I see a Unimog rollin around I'll wave you down and say hi!

My plans have changed to Monday possibly now. Seeing as its a nice new stat Holiday in BC may as well celebrate " Family Day " with a family shoot up there.
