Who has a holographic/red dot on their shotgun, and what do you use it for?

Just curious? I think holo is the way to go for everything under 100yards (for my tastes). I like it for anything close when it comes to the range, deer or birds. The other day my friend was telling me I was a bit nutz for getting a EOtech holo for bird hunting. Then it dawned on me; that's just what I like. Yes it was designed to be a CQ military/law enforcement piece.. but they are just awesome.

To me I see it this way, there are several different ways to aim with a shotgun;
- Pointing -> bead types
- Aim -> Scope, Red dot, rifle sights etc..

Out of all of these, I don't like the ones that remove the bottom portion of the field of view. So that removes the bead and fixed sights. Also I dno't like a scope for under 100yards because it obstructs the peripherals, creates a large blind spot, and magnifies which makes it easy to lose a moving target.

With a reflex/holo/red dot, there is nothing in the way other than the frame around the sight, which is pretty compact and allows for quick sighting. The zero magnification matches with your movement so its easy to keep a moving target inside the lense.

Am I totally off for the use of a red dot type scope on a shotgun?

I have an OKO reflex sight on my Benelli Nova, I have the barrel cut to 20" and rethreaded, magazine extension added. I use it to 3 and 4 gun competitions, and "Plunking" steel targets with 1oz rifled slugs... it is accurate enough to hit 8" steel gongs from 100yds.

I really like this sight on the Shotty, easy and fast to aquire the targets and the OKO reflex sight is very light and not bulky. Your not off at all, have fun with it.

I run a Busnhell TRS-25 and it feel great for most use. Small and low profile. The only thing is to know your hold over depending on your zero. As far as shooting anything that flies.... just remember your holds or be quick to remember the zero you have setup...otherwise a dot make everything faster

I just picked up a Burris Fastfire 2 for my Mossberg 500...I think I made a good buy...Now all I need is the Blackhawk specops 2 recoil negating stock...Can't find one.
