Yesterday the used HiPoint 40 S&W carbine arrived. I put a 1.5 – 4X scope on it and tested it with a variety of ammo I had on hand.
I fired 160 rounds. Functioning was 100%. Bullets were cast lead in flat point, Semi wadcutter and round nose. They all fed and fired perfectly.
All but one ammo sample grouped well. At 25 yards, groups were about 1.5”. I thought it would have done better than this, but in retrospect this is good enough for what I intend to do with it – shoot CQB.
At 50 yards (which is 20 yards beyond maximum CQB range) groups were around 4 to 5 inches. I have not shot any other pistol caliber carbines before, so have no idea if this is good or poor performance.
I noticed that the first shot of each 10 shot group was out of the group. The scope rail is plastic. That might be a source of some group size.
The carbine is a bit heavy, which makes it more stable to shoot off hand. The trigger is mediocre. About the same as the average AR-15, or maybe a bit better.
It uses the HiPoint pistol mags, so all the mags are 10 shot. A nice touch.
