Remington 870 Police Max .. feeding issues.

For the mag capacity thing try removing the extension and reinstalling it with the correct tightness. My brother bought an 870p and it had problems with the extension being on too tight from the factory. Maybe he'll chime in if he sees this.

tried it, tried racking it hard, same thing. get jams, double feeds etc... fuk what a pos. 800 bux its yours lol. That includes the mesa 8 shot side saddle. Cost me 1400 bux.

Kidding of course.

Don't get bent out of shape so quick, probably a faulty mag tube follower/ spring. Don't beat on the gun anymore then you would a power tool if it doesn't work contact your retailer and exchange the defective tool, simple. Also try not to damage the finish when installing your sidesaddle cause if I imagine if you will have that much more issues with returns/resale. Be PATIENT guns are simple mindset is complex; you WILL be able to figure it out. Worst case scenerio PM me and I will give you the comtact info of quite possibly the best Remmy shotgun smith in Canada and he can shed some light.

NAMASTE young jedi.

good chance its the follower, hence the reason we have sold over 20,000 of out teflon/Derlin mag followers in the last 5 or so years.
Another thing is, how tight do you have shell holder on, the reson i say this is you will be squeezing the frame, if to tight this can course things to jam up
lastly the shell latches could be bent wrong.

Ya i thought about that, which is why i removed the shell holder. So there is no shell holder on the gun at all, so that isnt the problem.

Heres a jam

A video showing a carpenters hammer next to an 870, not to mention the redneck taped pistol grip, is not one I care to watch.

GG34, (1) see if there are any burrs around the locking notch under the barrel hood. (2) with the action closed, does the carrier assembly move smoothly under its spring tension?

Report back please.

870s need assertive cycling. Lose the cheezy follower.

If your talkng about that thing that lifts the shell up to the chamber then yes, it moves smoothly when i push in on it. For the rest , i dunno what your talking about lol.

Get out your owners manual and familiarize yourself with 870s terminology. You did get one with your new gun, didn't you?

The locking block notch is located under the barrel hood behind and above the chamber. It's an angled cut in the barrel which the mouth of the shell slides past just before the shell is chambered.

... and regardless of your frustration, quit being a #### to people who are trying to help you. LOL :D

Also, your first photo shows classic signs of a weak, or broken "carrier dog spring". Look it up. Police models should have an extra power carrier dog spring installed from the factory.

Nobody is being a ####, i didn't know what your talking about, and the manual didn't have your terminology in it as i was looking through it. I did take some pics of what i think your talking about.

This is a brand new shotgun purchased from Wolverine Supplies. Im currently waiting for their gun smith to get back from lunch, then im gonna give him a call and see what he thinks.

The problems are not constant, i cycled 6 shells through three times with no issues, on the forth time, is when i got the jam and double feed that i posted the pics of above.

At the back of your Owner's Manual there's a schematic that lists all the terminology you need to know when talking 870s.

The "carrier dog follower" may also be binding in the trigger group and not providing enough tension to the carrier to lift a shell high enough to chamber smoothly.

I talked to Casey at Tactical Ordnance and he suggested trying some different ammo.

I tried some different ammo, and it seems to function fine with no issues. Im gonna go shoot this thing a bunch and break it in.

Yup the ammo is diffidently the issue. The ammo in question is Hornady Zombie Max 00 buck. It will jam up now and then. The Federal 00 buck and Remington slugs i have all cycle through with zero issues. Well at least its not the gun.

Maybe that specific ammo that's giving you a hard time will work once you break the 870 in.

Whats worst is I have a tonne of that Hornady Zombie stuff, guess ill have to shoot it out of my mossberg.

Not necessarily. Maybe the burrs on those chewed up shell rims from repeated dry cycling have something to do with it.
