sks and svt question

Do all the sks rifles have the serial # electropenciled on the barrel or gas system ?

Do all the svts have the same thing on The bolt handles?

I'm at a store looking at some for purchase as a collectable but the electropencil everywhere is kind of a turn off

SVT40 had their Ser# stamped on the bolt carrier before the refurb scrubbed them off

I've never seen an SKS with the serial number electropenciled on the barrel, but with SKS rifles you never can tell.

All SKS's have the serial number penciled on the gas tube, it was how that part was marked.

So the only svt I will find that doesn't have that is the nonreferb hens teeth ones lol

I think I found a good sks then. With sks's is a 55 more desireable than a 54 in a Tula?

for the sks, yes the '55 is more rare
and for the svt, it depend the year, they begins to put the 4 ports in '42 I think

The only really collectable SKS45s are 1949, Izh marked guns, late 1956 with factory laminate stocks and 1955 stamped rifles.

As for non refurb SVTs... well your only bet is a finn capture

Also with the svt40 a plum color bolt is preferable ? From what I recall the plum color was removed during refurb.

Damn work keeps getting in the way of going back and getting a few guns today! Lol

The cool thing about an svt most have seen action. Sks there are tons of 54 Tula on the market place. 55 are pretty cool ( last year stamped on receiver cover) find a nice non ###x ( stock) and start your collection there. Check the web for answers to collecting. ( everyone has opions on what's collectible and what's not) . Most of these sks ,svt40 on the market place will probably be shot and beat up a bit.

A gold bolt SVT looks the ###iest, but again, that's just another refurb shade.

The 49s from Westrifle are nicer. No damage to the magazine at all from pinning. Its internal.

The 53 izzy series is also hard to find.

It is only because those were untouched and looked after that original stocks were still intact and not replaced to Laminate.

Do you mean non-refurb in hardwood? I picked up an N last year in hardwood. ###X stock though. Gas tube wood was hard wood too.

Here is a re-post of my earlier post about SVT bolt and carrier colors:
One guy in Russia did an extensive research on SVT rifles(it included hundreds of inspected and documented rifles in museums and technical offices of Constructor's Bureau in Russia, including experimental rifles assembled by F. V. Tokarev himself....) He observed an interesting fact about bolt and carrier colors on ORIGINAL, NON-REFURBISHED SVT's/AVT's: rifles made in 1938-39 all had white bolts and carriers, 1940 very few were red colored, 1941 some were red and white colored, 1942-44 ALL were red colored, so plum, red etc colors of bolt and carriers does not necessary mean that the rifle has been refurbished. Of course these force matched were refurbished
IMHO I won't bother with changing the bolt and carrier color, not all of them were white at the beginning....

But the plum color bolt looks the hornyest.

I just tried this on my '41 Tula. Worked awesome ! Much better than purple !
