Chinese 7.62x51 for your Chinese M14

I have heard mixed reports on this ammo, but nothing first hand. Does anyone have first hand experience with this that would care to share?

It works great. As a bonus, for some reason its more accurate in either length than the south african surplus stuff I have

Received some of this ammo today, and opened one of the two spam cans in a case. I noticed that there is some discoloration on some of the rounds, but overall they look good. The ammo is only packed in thin paper within the spam cans, so I ended up just dumping the 520 rounds into a .50 can.

Question for everyone. Do you think it is better to open the other spam can and empty it into a new .50 can or leave it in the spam can until I need it? Since there was some discoloration on the rounds in the first spam can I opened, it makes me wonder how well the cans are sealed.

Thanks for your advice.

I take all my surplus out of the spam cans and use 50 cal or 40 mm tins. It takes up more room but you can monitor the ammo closer. No surprises in two years if there is an issue. Of course you can always add silica gel to the boxes to protect the ammo further.

Thanks for the advice copeland. I have been putting silica cat litter wrapped in cheap panty hose in all of my ammo cans to deal with any humidity issues. I like the idea of being able to monitor the ammo better by taking a look in the cans once in a while.

Need a little clarification..........

For CQB drills, this stuff sounds like just the ticket, and far less work than reloads, and brass need not be policed!!

I understand that this ammo is copper wash, steel cased, bi-metal jacket, but what's the core of the projectile?

I like to shoot indoors sometimes, but steel cored ammo is not allowed as its simply to hard on backstops.

I put a call into Tradex, but they are away from the phone right now, and thought I would ask here.

Thx in advance
