Well I have gotten to that point where I crave a 45 to play with. Gonna pick out a new one soon. Probably either a Glock 21 or a Ruger SR 1911. Leaning towards the Ruger as you can shoot lead bullets but hoping to find a set of adjustable sights down the road. I really wanted the Glock but don't want to have to buy another barrel for a while yet. Money doesn't grow in my backyard! :D

If you're getting the Ruger, check it out in person. Here-tell there's some rattlers out there.
QC isn't what it used to be, in America. That's why I always recomend a new Norinco 1911.

2 very good deals in 45 pistols - in a 1911 either the SAM or the STI Spartan (the Spartan is both very accurate AND very reliable, for a 1911 of any price). In a polymer striker fired gun the M&P45, which was rated second only to the HK (by Ken Hackathorn and Larry Vickers) and costs about the same as the Glock (2/3 the cost of the HK) it is also very accurate and very reliable. The M&P is available with or without an external safety, is ready to go out of the box for lead bullets and has better ergonomics than the Glock. Incidentally, using due caution the Glock can be shot using lead bullets, you just need to know you'll need to clean the barrel more frequently and more carefully using lead.

im borrowing a sr1911 right now, the one i have is pretty tight and im impressed with the quality. I have a spartan and the sr1911 is about 1000 time better looking. it is what i would but if i was buying a 1911 in that price range in .45acp. I have also heard about the rattlers so it is good to check out in person.

I want to try a SAM 1911 and its next on my list to hunt down and review, i hear good reports and it certainly looks good in the pictures.

I just purchased my first handgun also. I decided to purchase the Ruger SR1911 and I love the look and feel of it. Unfortunately, I personally can't tell you how it fires as I have yet to get all the paperwork together to get it to the range.

The P220 is of course the ultimate but out of my price range right now. I have thought about the FN though. I will hopefully handle them at the gun shop soon and "hopefully" that will help make my decision.

Save up and get the HK45...you will not regret it!!! Just like the Glock, you CAN shoot lead, just make sure they are sized right and that you give it a good cleaning every few 100 rounds.

HK makes quality guns but I sold mine due to the mag release. This is a terrible design imho, I would stick with a more traditional mag release.

Rattling in a 1911 isn't a sign of something wrong. My 1200-dollar Colt Government rattles. It also has excellent fit & finish. Sig Sauers rattle, too.
To generalize the quality control of an entire country's workforce on what you perceive as lack of workmanship is really reaching.

The Ruger SR1911 is supposed to be an excellent firearm. Tremendous value. A lot of the savings is from the investment casting that Ruger does versus some other guns that are forged (more expensive). Ruger has a reputation of building some of the most robust guns in the industry - ever heard of somebody wearing a GP100, Redhawk, SR9, 10/22, etc. out?

While you may get some lemons, the SR1911 is supposed to be an excellent buy. The Glock is a great gun too.

you can't go wrong with a glock, have a 21sf 3rd gen, easy to modify, parts are always available, spits out whatever you feed her, 5 thousand rounds with no issues but one due to a poor reload.

Its faster and ambidextrous and much more out of the way compared to a button IMO...it took me an afternoon to get used to it and switch over from a button release and I really, REALLY prefer it now.

There is button, lever and heel mag releases...none are "bad" it all just depends where/when said gun was made.

1911 - 102 years and still one of the best options in shooting. Nobody will be shooting a 2013 era Glock 102 years from now ;)

No one is shoot a 1911 that was MADE in 1911 either, the DESIGN is 100+ years old, 99% of guns out there are not that old...and if so, its heavily rebuilt. Metal wears out too, just differently then plastics do.
