Norinco 1911 question

Hey,
I have been looking arounbd a bit, and cant seenm to find one or one in stock. I am looking at the 1911 nickle double stack.
I heard the norincos are decent, don't have the cash for a $1500 one i want, so thought I could start out with the cheaper one.
Can any one provide me some info on where to find it, I checked marstar and it says they are out.
Also, any ideas on things I should do to smooth it out and make it work better before I would take it out. I was reading about people grinding edges and things, is that nessassary with this brand?
 
I can't speak for the dual stack models, never held one, but I have a Sport model and it is great. No rough edges or anything, and even a nice trigger. I got mine from Marstar a couple of years ago and am still happy with it.
 
Marstar is one of the official importers of Norinco products in Canada.

I bought one from them. Their steel has improved significantly over the years, so you can call it a quality product now. Not as refined as $1000+ guns but you're not paying $1000 for it either :)

A good project gun as well, good platform for many improvements. With some time and knowledge, you can make it a competition gun.
 
Roger Kotanko of Dark International in Port dover sold me mine and did trigger and reliability work on it for next to nothing. It is the nicest pistol I own. Expect to pay at least $400. These pistols are quality. Do not let the place of manufacture taint your attitude.
 
I was thinking of getting that exact gun in a few months. Marstar had them in stock forever. There finally sold out. You can always email John and see if he plans on getting any more in.

I am not sure why you want a double stack 1911, but just incase you are not aware, parts is not compatiable with many aftermarket parts, that means if you want to upgrade the gun, you will have hard time to find parts that can drop in.

Double stack 1911's are BIG! First auto I purchased was an NP-28 from Marstar. I was shocked at it's size when I received it. Had no idea what single stack v.s. double stack amounted to.

Is this your first 1911? I agree with the single stack, just shoot it straight out of the box. Once you are comfortable with it then begin your mods and improvements. You will find the standard norinco 1911 will interchange with series 70 colt parts and other clones. I did and I love my Norinco Commander 1911, it rests next to my Colt Gold Cup!
 
I really enjoy my norc 1911. The only problem I have is that I have to use two fingers to engage the safety.
