Hi all. Anyone out there have any opinions on this revolver? Was looking for a S&W 686 with a 5" barrel but they seem to be hard to find. Now I'm considering the Ruger instead. Any thoughts?

I've been looking for the .22lr version for a while and jumped on the .357 in the ee a few weeks ago......hasn't arrived yet.

Hey mlehtovaara. Looks like you got scooped by Can-down on the Sp101 on the EE judging by both of your posts. :) Anyway, check out Grouse River Outfitters. They have the .357 5-shot with a 4.2" barrel. It looks really nice. Think I will grab one.

I don't know where in Alberta you are but if it is near Edmonton you can order one from P&D - I just did.

Like the others, I just missed on the ones being offered here and said what the H and just decided to order one. In actual fact you will be paying just about the same for a new one as they are asking on any of the boards for used ones.

I just noticed on reread that you were asking about the SP101 not the GP100 - sorry - my bad. You may still be able to order from them.

Hey TrollGRG. I see the GP100 listed at P&D, but not the SP101. Also, I just talked to Grouse River Outfitters and the SP101's are back-ordered with no ETA from Ruger. Hard to find good metal these days.

I see that they do have a GP100 now but it usually goes pretty quick. They didn't have one the other day when I ordered mine. This one is the 4.2 model and I wanted the big 6.

Everything is getting harder to find lately. Must be the demand in the US of A.

I spoke to Grouse River salesman.

Their website is more of a catalogue than inventory.

Whatever you see there is only something that they carry, but lot of stuff is out of stock.

Lot's of retailers list inventory they can get but don't have, but most don't list things "in stock" when they are not.

Opinion? Yes.

I think the SP101 is the most perfect .357Mag ever available to Canadians in the 4.2" variety. :)
If you can find one, get it! I'm already in the top 10 at my local gunshop for the .22lr, unfortunately I didn't put myself on the .357 list otherwise I would have.

Ruger does revolvers right.

The Gun Dealer in New Brunswick lists a used 6" S&W 686 on their web site for $750. http://w ww.thegundealer.net/ You have to choose Firearms than Handguns, than used handguns to see it. They are good guys to deal with.

I think Kelly's Sporting Goods still lists the 686 4.2" in stock if you want to step up to the s&w. A bit more spend though at about $900.
