I'm researching my first pistol purchase while waiting for my Rpal to be issued and I'm leaning towards a CZ. I read that the SP-01 has a better trigger pull due to not having the trigger block mechanism that the Omega has. Is it something that a new shooter would notice or should I go with the cheaper Omega?

The Omega has a totally different trigger system than the other lline of CZ's. There also isn't many upgrade parts for the Omega. Not sure how the trigger is on one of them but they don't seem to be that popular. I'd look at the CZ75B, 85B/Combat and forget about the Omega.

In my eperience, which has been limited to only two Omega guns, they were noticably more gritty and had a little heavier a trigger pull. I got to handle one of them about a year later and it was almost as smooth as a regular CZ action by that time. But it took a LOT of ammo to get that way. It was a rental gun so it saw more ammo in a week than most owners put through a gun in a year.

All in all I'd suggest the SP-01 or 85Combat with old style action over an Omega actioned CZ. Or even a regular plain jane 75 with old style action.

I have omega with 13 main spring installed. Incredible trigger, as smooth as the Shadow, when you check side by side, and famous CZ accuracy and reliability (it's not like I would not thinking about switching to the Shadow in the near future, but it's just for the name of it ;))

+1
I don't like guns that I can't find parts for.
The SP-01 is an excellent gun. You want an SP-01 or an SP-01 shadow?

Thanks for the advise guys. I'm looking at a Shadow mr00jimbo, looks like your a CZ fan. What's the difference between a Shadow and a straight SP-01?

The main differences between a stock (from the CZ UB factory) SP-01 and a Shadow is, on the Shadow:
- No firing pin block (as found in the 75B), for a crisper trigger pull.
- Extended mag release
- Larger/Extended safety
- Fibre optic front sight
- Competition rear sight
- I believe it also comes with slightly lighter recoil and main springs to lighten the trigger pull

The Shadow does not come standard with a Combat Hammer to make the trigger pull crisper, however this is a popular modification done by IPSC/USPSA shooters - the Shadow usually ships with the same Hammer as found in the standard SP-01.

On that note, there is a difference between the Combat Hammer (which is an official CZ UB part and meets the IPSC Production rules) and the Competition Hammer (which is a CZ Custom hammer, which does not meet the IPSC Production rules as it is not a factory part).

The CZ Competition hammer is a factory optional part and is IPSC Production class legal.

Thanks silverfoxdj, the fibre optic sight really appeals to me as well. My eyes aren't as young as they used to be. The only pistol I've ever shot was a few weeks ago at the range, a .22 caliber Ruger with black rear sight and black front sight. Between that and the black rubber mat at the end of our indoor range, and I'm not so sure there were even bullets coming out of it. The targets were very safe and undamaged.
