Whats the story on the 9.3X62 in Canada?

I have a .35 Whelen and a .375 H & H, and that's the ONLY reason I don't have a 9.3x62 - it sits squarely between those two in performance. If i was doing it over again, I'd just get a 9.3.

Well, I can tell you Ted (Why Not?) is the only reason I have one, that, and one showed up in our LGS in a CZ 550 FS and with my rabid infatuation with short barreled, full stock rifles, it just followed me home. I put a compact Vari X-2 in 3-9 on it, ran up some old '06 brass, and made up some Speer 270 gn loads (which I think is the ideal bullet weight for this caliber). Shortly thereafter I wandered northward and proceeded to bean a rather large walrus with it. Walrus is the largest game animal in NA, so I guess the 9.3X62 is good for the largest game in NA.
My CZ chronos 2625 fps with the 270 Speer, and the recovered bullets look exactly like they should for a well made c+c bullet.

The 9.3X62 is the one in the rear, I quite like it and I'm sure it'll remain in my possession longer than most.

Face it, there are two kinds of rifle cranks in Canada...those that own a 9.3x62 and those that want one. If you're not in one of those catregories then you're just nto a true crank.

No doubt, there are more than a few of us in that happy boat. Ted,... Heading north for retirement summers in a few years, will be tracking you down, just to shake your hand.

There, is a rifle for those long walks in high country.

The almost 12 lb., all up, .375 BRNO seems to weigh somewhat more these days, than it used to.

Anyone know of a good 9.3mm GC mold, for full power or fairly close to it ?.(apologies for the drift, OP)

Thanks for that B.U.M..
Maybe Makarov pills will mag feed through the FN98?. The 'old standby' for S.G. loads ... Horn. RB's, they won't. Those lead balls drop the nose down below the feed ramp bevel and hang up, every time.
Was ordering some Speer 270's(thx c-fbmi) anyways, am almost certain that Tradeex offers Makarov bullets too.
Off we go(yet again),to Tradeex.
I swear, Anthony is in reciept of the better part of vvikings meager disposable income !.

There was a group buy over at cast boolits site a couple years?? ago, a .368- 285 grain cast gc bullet. I have the mold, but I don't think I even got it broke in......sitting on a shelf somewheres. Bought it for my M-46 Husky, but sold the rifle before I got around to developing any loads. Now I have a rebarreled Marlin XL7 with Mc Gowen barrel in 9.3x62mm and have no plans of taking it easy on her with cast boolits.

Ditto on all the comments so far. I have two 9.3x62's, both Husqvarna FN98's. Loading components are easy to find and there are quite a number of manufacturers chambering the x62 now. You won't be disappointed.....

I have a .35 Whelen(FN), a 9.3X62(Mauser) AND a .375 Ruger(FN). So your argument doesn't hold water.:)

Get a '62 - you'll feel better:)

PS. The .35 Whelen is for sale to a good home. FN action, Douglas premium barrel, Timney trigger, etc, etc, ad nauseum. See what I just did. :)

Reading about the 9.3x62 on CGN earned it a spot near the top of my "Rifles to Buy" list. Next purchase is either going to be a rifle in 9.3x62 or .45-70, haven't decided yet.

I knew you'd come around! Now who will I debate the 35 Whelen vs 9.3x62 with?

I havent tryed one but my dad used to have a 9.3x64 brenneke and it made a really good moose and big bear round. The 9.3x62 is almost like having a a 375h and h in a standard lenght action.

Well, I still have both but I do carry the 9.3 a bit more.
I've lugged the Whelen around since I was 16, the Buhmiller barrel it wore was well used when I bought it and about 18 or 20 years ago my Brother put a Bevan King barrel on it and it became a whole different rifle accuracy - wise.
Have a lot of good memories with the Whelen, but my CZ550 FS is a bit lighter, shorter, and handier in the bush... and also more accurate than I expected it to be.
My Whelen when built was meant to be used with a 275 gr. Hornady, a good accurate bullet sadly long gone so I scrounge the gun shows looking for them and sometimes finding, but heavy bullets are more easily available for the 9.3.
One of the better shooting bullets in my 9.3 is the 285 gr. PRVI Partizan over a case full of 4320 powder.
They are very reasonable to buy and are a good bullet in my opinion.

I had a custom 9.3x62 on a VZ 24 action, I'm a bit recoil sensitive, sold it to a buddy who hunts grizzlies in BC and bought a M96 actioned rifle from Anthony in 9.3x57. Had the barrel cut to 20" and crowned and the front sight replaced.. A bit more than a 358 Win. Very accurate. My black bear tree stand gun, light and handy
A friend made a neck expander to get 8mm Mauser to 9.3 and it works well, so brass is not a problem. A Swedish friend says that they call the 9.3x57 the "potato thrower"!
