Looking to see what others are using for relatively heavy roundnose bullets in 7mm.

Will be used in a 7x57 Husqvarna 4100 on deer.

It shoots 139gr Hornady Spiral accurate but I would like something heavier and soft, but not too long...

Don't even know if the gun will shoot heavy....by heavy I guess between 160gr and 185gr, something like that

Thanks for your help

Hornady makes a interlock round nose 175gr. Bc .285. Sd .310. Item#2855

Personaally I'd go with the 162gr interlock btsp. Bc .514 sd .287. Item#2845 Interlocks expand well even at lower velocities aand keep well enough weight

The reason I am looking for a roundnose is because I want a heavy bullet that is short....so it will stabilize in my twist.

Have you tested and found out the heavy pointed ones will not stabilize? Sometimes too much importance is placed on twist rate, especially for hunting applications. As I said before, you may well be trying to solve a problem you just don't have.

I think Hornady is the only one still making the round nose style. The only other option is to haunt the gun shows and EE and keep an eye out for old stock. There's nothing wrong with round nosed bullets as long as you're willing to keep your shots inside 200 yds.

anyone shoot 7mm roundnose?
I shoot what ever bullets I can buy cheap, and over the years have come by hornady, imperial and mystery 175 gr 7mm bullets. I have shot moose with all of them, at ranges to about 200 yards. If you get about 2400 fps out of them they will generate regular one shot kills. At the modest velocity with the sectional density they have they are marvellous.nothing kills stuff any deader.

Sorry, but I don't get your 200 yard rule. I would shoot deer at 350 without a second thought if I knew the range.

A 173 gr roundnose at 2,300 ft/s and 2,025 ft lbs is the original Spanish military load for the 7x57mm Mauser.

Prvi Partizan makes a 173 gr SP load that comes pretty close to it.

Trajectory and energy start to drop off pretty sharply once you get out past 200-250 yds. With a 200 yd zero the bullet will be 3" high at midrange, will have dropped 5" at 250, a foot at 300 and 2 feet at 350. Energy will be down to 1100 foot pounds at 300 and 950 at 350 yds.

That's assuming 2500 fps muzzle velocity... Federal factory 175 only hit 2300 or so, but the old Winchester round-nose 175 gr. was a surprise at 2450 in 23" barrel.

I have used Hornady 139 plain base interloc bullets on several mule deer and whitetail deer and have had no complaints. Ranges have been from 75 to 300 yards (most in the 150-175 yard range). If you are really concerned about the performance I would go to a 150/154 grain standard bullet or a Nosler Partition.

maybe I could save myself some time and just buy some Prvi....I'll take a look around, thanks

It is hard to find, and it burns a bit dirty, but the accuracy seems fine and the brass is supposed to be really good for reloading.

It is similar to Winchester ammo as a comparison for how dirty is burns.

I'd like to buy a few thousand rounds of it if I can ever find it cheap enough.
