SKS ammo question

Can I use pretty much any and all types of 7.62X39 ammo in my SKS (legal of course) or are there specific ones not recommended for this weapon? Other than corrosive vs non-corrosive ..

It's just that I've read some articles saying that you should only shoot surplus .. something about modern ammo punching a hole through the primer, setting off the round bla-bla. I don't know didn't make much sense to me so I said lemme ask the real pros
 
Yup. Remember, this is a Russian battle rifle. It's specifically designed to fire pretty much any old ammo you could scrounge up in a warzone.
 
Most SKSs do not have spring loaded firing pins so they free float in the bolt. With some soft commercial primers this can lead to a slam fire causing an accidental discharge. Since the US has all but banned exports of 7.62x39 you're unlikely to see anything here besides surplus or Euro-spec ammo that seems to be fine in this regard.

Quite right, it's not just a marketing gimmick. The Europeans take firearms proofing very seriously and consequently have ammunition that is typically more stout than the usual underloaded fare found in litigation-riddled America. Most of the "max" loads you see in SAAMI-territory reloading manuals only begin to approach CIP maximums.
 
The Chinese stuff is loaded hot and prints a good 18" high at 100 yards compared to my handloads.[24gr -Win 748/123gr SP]

My SKS is not a weapon, it is a non restricted sporting rifle.

The problem you read about is called slam firing. It is a problem with cheap commercial grade primers (as stated in a previous post). Look for military grade primers. All manufactures i have seen use mil spec primers. examples that i have used in my sks are:
sellier-bellot is made in czech, green and yellow box
ppu/priv partisan is made in serbia, blue and white box
any surplus has mil grade primers (obviously)

they should all have mil spec primers and be safe to use, but it doesn't hurt to check it out first.

It was made as a weapon though; you’re just using it as a NR sporting rifle. You could probably argue this for some rifles, shotguns and pistols specifically designed for hunting and target shooting but pretty hard to argue it with a rifle designed and manufactured to be a weapon.

Whats wrong with owning a weapon?

It's an SKS-D, a civilian rifle made for hunting and target shooting.

Nothing apart from giving the antis a weapon to use against you.
