AR double firing

The notch on the disconnector that holds the hammer cocked after you fired a round might be worned out and not doing what it is supossed to do.

If you were firing from a rest or prone position, it is very possible you accidentally bump fired it. Try to make sure you follow through on your trigger pull to reduce the chance of this happening.

Where was the safety selector at? Some NEA used full auto safety levers and if you have it on the (what would be) Auto position, it could double fire, since the disconnector is disengaged by that safety position. The hammer would ride the pin back after the first shot.

In truth all of the fire control parts on some NEA Ar15's were full auto parts. Trigger, disconnector and safety. It was only missing the full auto hammer and auto sear. The sear delays the falling of the hammer on the firing pin. That timing gives the hammer enough force to fire the round.
A semi-auto disconnector is NOT disengaged by an auto selector. It needs the little tail to interface with the selector. I'm fairly certain NEA doesn't use auto disconnectors.

THE most common reason for doubling is the wear between the disconnect hook and the hammer hook.
You end up having shot go on the press and on the release of the trigger, thereby sounding like a double, but in fact one shot, twice, fast.

Easy fix, cheapest fix, best done by replacing both the disconnect and hammer.
