I just installed one of the Smith Enterprises M14 Muzzle Brake Adapters from Armtac.com one of our Board sponsors....

Here it is....

Some of you M14 Norc newbies might have a bit of a challenge getting that High School shop class finished flash suppressor off. YouTube is your friend. We posted videos on how to use a BFH (big hammer) on your flash suppressor.

I wanted a shorter flash suppressor, something like the A2 from my AR15 so that this M14 Norc Shorty will be shorter and even more ready for the zombie invasion(s).

Here is a close up of the unit installed...

Here is a shot with the gas cylinder. Mine happens to be a Springfield M1A unit that M14Doctor had welded up at his operation in BC. What a short stubby unit with 5/8 x 24 tpi thread pattern. I wanted the short adapter and maybe a thread protector for a super short finished barrel. Then I thought an A2 flash hider would allow the muzzle end to be 'finished' off even better. Of course suppressors are banned here in Canada, but know that 5/8" x 24 turns per inch is what comes set up on the Remington M700 SPS Tac AAC-SD 20" barreled .308 rifle to accomodate the AAC suppressor (in the USA, of course).

Let's zoom out a bit... gives you better perspective... Then here is a shot of the barrel, handguard, and front end.

So here is the entire shorty rifle with the adapter. Nice and short looking, eh? I'm liking it! :D

My A2 Armalite flash hider arrived and it came with a crush washer designed for the 5/8" diameter (not like the AR15 units that are 1/2"). Remember that when you do this upgrade.

Installing it is simple just like doing an AR15A2 flash hider!

Here I am done and the uncut bottom area is facing the bottom dead center

And then a top view of the Armalite A2 flash hider. Notice that the crush washer ended being a bit wider than the A2 unit. Have a closer look:

This was one fun project! Now to order a true muzzle brake and try it at the CQB matches when one shoots like this :

Hope you all learned something. All great fun. A shorter front end? What's not to like?

Cheers,

Looks great. Thanks for the review. It should be install and go with a flash suppressor. I'm thinking that with a closely fitted muzzle brake, you might want to check alignment to the bore, as the adapter relies on the machining of the exterior of the m14 barrel for alignment.

Very nice! I should get one ??

I dunno about your needs, but I just could not resist the move to something shorter! And also something easy to install, now it's something that allows all kinds of other interesting 5/8" x 24 tpi accessories. :dancingbanana:

One of these days, I gonna buy a brake and install it. And now I can have my .308 SPS Tac barrel threaded for 5/8" x 24 tpi so that I can swap these add-on toys! ;)

Cheers,
Barney

I got one of these for a build i'm doing for the spouse. I'm in the process of swapping out barrels so don't have the vortex tightened down w/ crush washer yet. The adapter is long and bottoms out on this SEI product before the shoulder gets much closer to the sight base bit...

Correct on that hole, the Rob Arms all have that hole in their threads so a pin can be inserted and then welded to anchor the muzzle brake. A set screw would be much better for removal.

As yes the stupid <16" american law were they can use a flash hidder to get around the 14.5 to 16 or make it legit to sell out side of the country.

I like how you think Barney. It will fit a regular 22" Norc Barrel right?

I have one of these SEI units put away for my next build. Krieger 18.5 med SS on the way, might just put a SEI build together
Glad to see a review and even gladder to finally see someone like Armtac bringin us the good szhit.
Now... What am I gonna put on the end of mine.....

When one orders one of these, are there any additional parts or screws that need to be ordered as well??

I want one of these so I can try my 308-AR flash hidders and break on my M-14 shortie.

Thx in advance
