PDW builds - Lets see them, and share results

OK had a little time so the theme is: PDWs Old Skool & So Fly...

lol.( dont judge me) I told u I had some time.......anyhow:

Hipster Green Berets and John Wayne chillin @ the HO-Chi Min. (CAR-15/XM177 project) & a dressy KAC SR-15

The D-Ball on the KAC SR-15 is the worlds most expensive laser cat toy.(My cats like green over the red laser but commercial pilots on final appoach dont like either) STILL waiting for the Surefire to finish the build btw.

Ceramic compensator vs. steel bird cage. Flip sight vs fixed sight.

Yes I know what ur thinking.. the CAR 15 flash hider was longer BUT I wanted to keep the OAL as short as I could hence just the plain bird cage.

Recoil reduction is phenomenal. Factory 55g FMJ pushes like a 22 rimfire on the SR-15

Why are your switches infront of your dbal? Since you don't have anything else in the way you should reverse that setup. Unless there are other things that need to be mounted generally it is best to run the dbal/peq as far forward as possible.

+1

peq in front. light switches on the sides.

Keeps the dbal out of the fov and the balance farther back. If you're gripping the FA with the thumb over grip the dbal would be in the way if you had it up front. This also allows the thumb to activate the switches which are for a tac light not currently mounted. At least that's how I was taught.

Exactly. You don't do the thumb over grip if you are running a Dbal/peq unless you have big hands and run button on the unit itself instead of a switch. How would you do your thumb over grip with your unit at the rear and run the laser? Your hand would be in the way. The PEQ/Dbal should be as far forward as possible, whoever taught you was wrong. Of course this advice only applies if you are using the dbal to aim with NVGs rather than as a fashion accessory.

It worked well for the guys I saw doing it. But they wouldn't run a light and laser at the same time. Not using a light with NVGs usually anyways but I imagine that could be changing with all the IR lights out there now. Then the laser position would be a problem I'd imagine.

The reason the DBALL is set up the way it is because I use a rope grip. The buttons therefore is where my left hand is.

I'm going to presume you don't actually use NVGs then. If you put something in front of the illuminator/laser (like your hand, mounts, some irons) you get splash. If you need to run the unit that far back the better option is to stuff the switch or cut and glue it between rails at 10:30.

The RED laser does get in the way of my hand. But I dont use the RED, I use the Green. Hence it works great ! The KAC is set up for right hand shooters. And until Im called up to do a tour with JTF2, Im good with the way its set up for now.

This is my PDW, KPOS Glock 17 9mm or Glock 35 in .40 S&W Burris Fast fire II, 5/33 round magazine. It folds up nicely. Since its only a PDW, I dont need to extend past 100 yards and it easily reaches out that far. Comfortable, light, and easy to manouver with, I love it.
