The 9.3x62 is not a specialized cartridge, it's been around for more than 100 years and for most of those years was, and still is used primarily as a meat getter by African farmers. The fact that several manufacturers have chosen to chamber rifles in this calibre speaks to its history and success. Many species of African plains game are a similar size to our moose and elk. You mention the .358W as an alternative...great choice, I have a couple of those too. I must say though that my 7 lb Rem 600 .358W generates more felt recoil than my 8 lb custom 9.3x62. Everyone on this forum will have a preference for one rifle calibre or another, for reasons of recoil tolerance, overall rifle weight, long range/short range requirements, etc. etc. I would never say to any of them that their personal choice "sucked".
