Noveske-14.5 Afghan 5.56

i personally think that Noveske rifles are the best of the DI AR15's...I would probably have given the honours to KAC, but I'm not a big fan of any AR with a proprietary bolt.

I have owned pretty much all of the top tier AR's, and the Noveske's have alway been my favorite.

Noveske I would say is probably the best boutique AR in the traditional sense out there but KAC being proprietary as PBR Streetgang says is absolutely pinnacle of DI but in it's own class in a sense...

thanks for all your replies. I got one for Christmas from my good wife. Now I am just waiting for spring and the range to open.

Wow, keep her! :bigHug: A Valentines dinner and a box of chocolates in return seems like a good deal to me, even if she did use your credit card ;)

Couldn't agree more. I've had both Knights and a Noveske. Though the KAC was feather light, and grouped like a boss, the Noveske was insanely well built. Mine is custom made by Armtac, but uses the 14.5 middy Noveske. Also had a 12.5 Noveske that was tight.

Noveske Afgan barrel is a stainless barrel rifled at Pac Nor's facility on using Noveske tooling

Here is a good interview with Noveske that explains all this

Noveske is one of the best stainless barrels you can get . At first the barrels look pricy but when you consider they come with Vltor gas block ( in some cases gas tube because they use the goofy intermediate....longer than mid length ) gas system ) than is pinned on barrel its actually not that bad

His upper is typically Vltor Mur or VIS uppers

IMO - if you want a higher end AR then buy anything you can get your hands on , like a SR15 or Noveske N4 or stainless upper

You can't compare a Noveske stainless barrel upper to a KAC SR15

The apples to apples comparison would be a Noveske N4 upper. The N4 uses a CHF lightweight barrel made by FN using a M249 machine gun blank

The KAC SR15 uses a Diemaco / Colt Canada CHF barrel

Don't worry about the SR15 "E3" being proprietary bolt. Once you play with both ( I posted pics sometime back ) , the benifits of the SR15 design far outweights the fact that its proprietary

In addition, you can use a standard bolt and carrier assembly in a SR15 in an emergency according to KAC . I couldnt care less that the SR15 replacment bolt is more expensive. Consider this, even if you change the bolt @ 20K rounds, you would have spent over $8K in ammunition ! Another couple hundred for a KAC bolt seems inconsequential

Both the SR15 and Noveske N4s are lighter than a upper built on a Noveske stainless. A half lb doesn't seem much on paper until you use it. The SR15 and N4 points like a dream

Had a Recon, the 16'' version and now I have the Afghan. I prefer the 14'' barrel lenth. Very well made rifle, extremelly accurate for an AR15. I don't think I will consider selling this one.

I suddenly have the urge to increase my credit limit and buy a new AR. Good post.

OP,
If your the kind of individual of who practices " buy once, cry once" then Noveske, Knights is your thing, . I have a N4 Basic middy, and no regrets. I am now in the stage where a person wants more quality less quantity . get an Excellent one rather than 2 0r 3 in a soso thing. If its good for Clint Smith, is must be good for me, LOL, good luck

If I could only have one AR, it would be a Noveske Afghan. Second would be a KAC SR15 - 16". I've owned Noveske's of almost every barrel length. My favorite are the 11.5", 12.5" and 14.5" for normal shooting. The 16" stainless starts to get a little nose heavy, and is pretty much SPR/DMR length. Pretty much any SS noveske barrel, save the 7.5", will give you MOA or better with match ammo, and a magnified optic. I'd try and buy a Noveske built gun, but in the absence of that, the barrel alone, is enough.

I have had the chance to play with my buddy's KAC 16" and I have the Noveske 14.5" with switchblock. The ideal rifle for me would be a KAC lower for full ambi feature with a Noveske 14.5" upper. =o)
