For all you SKS history buffs out there I have a random question. I am a curious person and I am also a fiction writer so I like to gain as much knowledge as I can for future novel ideas. I was wonder if the Ruskies ever made full auto SKSs. I know they did with the SVT, but I'm not aware of the SKS.

I know someone got sh*t kicked for asking how to turn his SVT to full auto, you will notice I am not asking that so no one get pis*y, just a curious mind wanting to expand my knowledge.

I don't think so, sks were a stepping stone too the ak47, thaTs why sks were not widely issued. Ak47 came out too quickly. But I certainly could be wrong.

Like Dyspnea said, AK came quickly so the russian has nothing to gain with experimentation on full auto SKS's.

The SKS was scaled down from an already existing anti-tank weapon and the AK47 idea was based on the Nazi 44 8mm Kurtz

What dictionary do you two use? Just because something is not legal doesn't mean it can't be done. No one is asking how to convert an SKS so silly incorrect statements like "it's impossible" are as pointless as they are false.

To answer the OPs question no, the Soviet Union did not produce full auto SKSs but apparently the Yugoslavs did experimentally. If you were writing that a character had a factory full auto SKS this would be spurious. A converted one is quite possible as I've amply demonstrated above, apparently to the chagrin and disbelief of some.

He is 100% right. It is impossible to make an SKS full auto because it is illegal to do so.

Never asked about making an sks full auto if you read the first post fully you would have seen that. I asked if there were ever any made. Made that pretty clear in the post. Whether it is illegal or not it doesn't mean it can't be done. It is illegal to unpin mags but it can be done. It is illegal to cut any barrel smaller than 18.5 inches but it can be done. Legality doesn't translate to impossibility...

Thank you for the answer. Not sure where I am going to go with it in a story, but if I do use it the info will help!

Anything can be made full auto. It just isn't allways practical. WW2 saw full auto 303 Lee Enfields. TO make the SKS full auto would require a rework of the trigger system. But them,,, Why? Have you ever tried to hit anythin on full auto?
