Browning shorttrac vs Benelli R1

I have both of them (not 300wsm though), they're both great.

Not a fan of the BAR floorplate system, so I switched mine over to the Winchester SXR style. Snaps in & out easier than the R1.

BAR is very accurate, mine is under 1moa, my R1's are 1.5moa

Both reliable if they are maintained a bit, I use g96 to clean mine.


I hunt with my R1 cause it fit's/feels better for me. Have used mine in -35, no problems. Have over 3k round through it, no problems. I have a wood and comfortech, and the comfortech does reduce felt recoil.
 
Only for longtrac & shortrac

Order a winchester sxr floorplate. SA# U3177043F4 or LA# U3177046F4, must come with Spring (B317620801) and pin (B317671002) which mine did.
I ordered from Western 780-489-5711. They gouged me $80 inc tax and shipping for 2.

Simply take off the front handgrip. Punch out the pin where the BAR floorplate pivots. Remove the BAR floorplate, and reinstall the pin. Put the forestock back on, done.

The original magazine will snap onto the sxr floorplate (I crazyglued the mag to the floorplate to keep it together) and function like an SXR with a detachable magazine.

The stopper on the magazine can also be drilled out with a 3/8 bit and then it will hold 5 insteas of 4. Great for loading, reloads, but the mag loaded with 5 will not in on a closed bolt. (270&'06)

The BAR shortrac, BAR HogStalker, SXR and FNAR are basically the same reciver with different magazine styles. Yoy could go all out and put an FNAR magwell on a Shortrac (though not worth the bulk for a neutered 5 round mag)
 
No go for the old styles......too bad there isn't something for them.

Only works on the longtrac and shortrac models with the big plastic floor plate. You can see it on the video if you know what the new BARs looks like.
 
If I had an old parts BAR to work on I'd try and figure something out.

I'm actually quite surprised no company has mad a conversion kit. Lots of people don't like the system.
I hunt with a few guys that've had them for years, they like them and are very fast at mag changes, so maybe it just isn't that big of a deal.

I own a shorttrac in 270WSM and love it. I would rather have a regular clip that drops right out but I've gotten used to it. A friend of mine owns an R1 in 300mag and told me he made sure he bought the synthetic model with ComforTech stock after using one without. It really makes a difference in recoil if that's a concern for you. Also the R1 is only available in 300mag not 300WSM the last time I looked. Good luck

oh gosh, I'm just die-ing to get my hands on a Shortrax with the oil finished stock in 7mm-08 or maybe 308. Anyone know where there is one for sale?
