Looking to get into a Swiss, but I have a few questions.

Running STANAG mags are a must, just for ease of gear collection. No reason to buy another 10 mags if I don't have to.

I can't seem to find much about the NEA Swiss lower, other than the mismatched color. Anyone that can chime in good/bad?

I have sent TSE some emails this week asking about LPK and 553-US lowers, but nothing back from them yet.

So that brings me to the possibility of importing a 556-US lower. Have seen some reference to people taking our PE90 lowers and mating them to a SIG 556 upper, but can it be done the other way round? Using a Black Special/Classic Green on a 556-US lower?

Either way I know I am looking at close to 5k for this... ouch!

Funny you started this post , I am in the same boat right now and would also like some feed back on the NEA lower. I actually found one with a mag release and had it delivered... took me 2 months to find a nice used one. I still havnt picked up a PE90 yet, as im looking for the right deal on the right gun.

Any feed back on the NEA lower installed would be great.

Also OP - have a look at the mag well adapter that the Calgary Shooting Centre offers. Under $300 if I recall correctly (includes one mag too). No drilling or gunsmithing required so if you want to take it off it'll leave no markings on your Swiss lower. I'd say that its a better and cheaper way to use AR mags in the Swiss platform.

Great post , thanks BENL. I did talk to the guys at shooting edge in calgary today. They said they have had an NEA lower on a PE90 as a range gun for 5 years. Pounding rounds through it without a single problem... I think ill run mine.

I have an NEA lower on mine and it's been 100% reliable.

To start with I have to say that I have no personal experience with this and am going by information by users that have done this. However it seems that the 556 lower requires permanent modification to the Swiss upper, specifically removing some of the trunion. Make sure this is something you're willing to commit to as there is no going back.

Either that or you can notch the mags in the same fashion as what the magwell adapter from the shooting center has you do.

Yes you have to do the relief cut to the upppers trunion area. A 5 minute job with a dremel, then works perfect with AR mags.

It has no efect on reliability at all, you can also notch the mags if you dont want to touch up the trunion with a file or dremel.

Personally I'd say hold out for a NEA lower, they come up here every so often but it seems those that have em hold onto them ;). If you don't mind full retail price I believe the Shooting Edge has some or Shooting Center has the magwell adapter.

NEA Swiss lowers are OOP I do believe, so if you can find one grab it.

Hope that helps.

I read on here a while ago that Swiss arms had made their own version of the nea lower for the pe90. I think someone was going to be importing them. Ever happen?

Thanks loki_81, so very tempting to attempt that mod now, as it would be exactly what I am looking for; NR Swiss upper+STANAG mags+folding AR stock. Decisions decisions...!

If only the NEA kit allowed for folding.

As I understand it, once it's installed it's good to go. It's the fit and finish of the lower from NEA that perhaps doens't warrant the $500 price tag.

What do you see that this lower brings to the table over and above and magwell adapter that the CSC offers (about half the price including a mag, no permanent installation/modifications required, you're left with an empty lower - could always sell it too)? I understand you already have your NEA lower, but think the discussion is still a good one to have :)

Not having to mod all the mags you intend to run is my main reason to be Leary of it. I know its just a small gash to cut, but still!

For the record that setup isn't a natural folder, that's a folding stock kit like the ACE AR-15 folding stock. Such as this ht tp://riflestocks.com/store/page16.html

Such a stock can be installed on the NEA lower as well.

Calgary shooting centre adapter is cheaper but I think its ugly.Yeah it is a small cut on the magazine. Some magazines are quite tight getting in and out (robinson arms 10 round pistol magazine). The magazine lock/release gets marked up and its leading edge is worn quicker as well. The finish on the adapter leaves a bit to be desired, small bump and off comes the paint plus is only green, no black when I was there. Would be nicer to have a complete lower to make swapping (for whatever reason) easier. Just my thoughts.

Small, but important correction: The mags you are referring too are LAR-15 pistol mags, not RA's.
